That’s right, today is December 25th, and that now means it’s Jason Pye’s birthday.

As you wind down your Christmas celebrations, please take a moment and wish our resident Libertarian and Peach Pundit Assistant Editor a very happy birthday.

Though I’ve been trying to start the rumor that he would be turning 45 today, he claims it’s his 30th. Regardless, he’s been celebrating for a week, and I hope being snowed in gives him one more day of Pyepalooza.

(1) The union crowd showed up at City Council tonight to protest my most recent column about union thuggery and why we should disband the police if they go union. I stand by the column and they proved my point.

(2) I have my national radio debut on Thursday. I’ll be filling in for Fred Thompson on his radio show, co-hosting with Jeri Thompson. The show is growing amazingly well. It’s on several hundred stations across the country now. My goal remains to guest host for Rush.

3) Dale Cardwell, U.S. Senate Primary – Seriously, dude, you had the much repressed populist in me pulling for you until you climbed up that smokestack.

4) Barry Flemming, 10th Congressional Primary – Did the Whitehead Campaign teach you nothing about listening to a few power brokers in Atlanta about how to handle that district?

5) Keith Gross, Emperor of the World – Never, ever challenge the public to do a simple open records search if you have a public record. And dude, try at least living in the State that you want to be elected in.

6) Fred Thompson, Republican Presidential Primary. I’d write more about this, but I had to take two naps while typing just thinking about his performance. So, so disappointing.

7) Bob Barr for President. Seriously, you took the energy, fundraising, and approximate 5% polling numbers from Ron Paul, and turned it into what? I need another nap. (Don’t take it personally Jason, you’re doing the best with what you have to work with.)

I know I’m forgetting a few, consider the nominations open.

UPDATED TO INCLUDE: 8. Hillary Clinton – Standard bearer, Clinton Dynasty. I guess I forgot to include her because I’m still not sure her campaign is really over. Those Clinton’s are Voldemort. She lost this one big time, but she’ll be back.

For those who don’t want to follow the link, CNN poll conducted 10/11-10/14 shows McCain leading Obama among likely voters by 51-45 with Bob Barr getting 4% of the vote. I am also told that in 2004, approximately 50,000 Georgians submitted voter registrations on the last day to register and that this year it may have been closer to 70,000. Additionally, registration compared to 2004 began surpassing the prior level in early August and maintained a significant advantage throughout September when compared to the similar period four years earlier. But hey, it’s a myth, y’all.

Fred isn’t dead yet. Fred’s best days were when he wasn’t a candidate. Well guess what? He’s not a candidate again. Expect Fred’s numbers to go up and he’ll beat the Democrat from Hope, the Mormon from Boston and the Grumpy guy from where-ever McCain is from.

OK, Peach Pundit Fred Thompson backers…it ain’t gonna happen. He stayed in the race long enough to deny Huckabee a much needed South Carolina win, but I can’t imagine he’ll stay in after Florida, and he may drop out and try to throw his weight behind someone else before then in an effort to regain some of the credibility that he had and then watched erode as the race has gone on.

Consider this an open thread on Presidential politics. For all you Fred supporters, renounce now in the comments and we promise not to make fun of you for your prior bad judgement in the future. After all, it is kind of funny to think back on the glory days of Fredmania and note that Fred Thompson even had his own category here on PP.

As Campaign Season Begins, Only One Presidential Candidate is Viewed Favorably by Majority of Voters.

That candidate is McCain.

Romney then Huckabee were viewed as the least favorable. Hillary was third behind Edwards and McCain.

How does this relate to Georgia? I read about the poll in Georgia–yes I know that is tenuous at best.

Huckabee and Hillary are leading in Georgia, with 23% and 34% respectively.

The data on President Bush is somewhat interesting. He has a 45% disapproval rating, and 39% approval.

A majority view him favorably on one issue–the war on terror–and even then, only 53% of those polled approve.

The rest of the poll is worth reading.

Andy Young Jumps into the Fray

Andy says he “wants” Barack Obama to be President “in 2016″.

Young said that Barack needs more experience and maturity to handle what a presidential campaign will do to him and his family.

The other key points Young made were that Hillary, who he supports, is better connected to the African American community than Barack, and Obama’s upbringing make him uniquely qualified to handle the two biggest issues facing America, “Islam and China”.

NB: Huckabee has a 22 point lead over Romney in Iowa, and Clinton is trailing Obama by six. Poll here. I guess you could say a lot of people heart Huckabee.

Deal May Switch Support to Huckabee

According to a recent Congressional Quarterly piece about Fred Thompson ~~and the obvious fact that he is a weak candidate and how that was willingly ignored by his early supporters~~, Deal is having second thoughts about the “savior” of the GOP.

Rep. Nathan Deal , R-Ga., was once on the brink of declaring for Thompson but ultimately chose to keep his powder dry.

Deal said that, like others, Thompson waiting so long to get into the race disconcerted him.

Thompson’s campaign finance chairman Thomas D. Bell Jr., has relinquished his role as the campaign’s chief money man. There is a new poll in the race to ~~lose to~~ face Saxby Chambliss and a dozen other issues.

Head to head, Chambliss gets 49% and 53% of the vote against Cardwell and Jones respectively, while the two challengers get 33% and 28%, also respectively. 18% chose “other” or “not sure” in both races.

52% say Perdue is performing well or excellently.

Some senator from New York loses in every head to head match up for president, but interestingly, 26% of all respondents

Fred Thompson Announcement Party

Tomorrow is the big day. Senator Thompson will be announcing his candidacy for the President of The United States. Fred will be doing his announcement via webcast, and the draft committee plans to get together to watch it.

We will be meeting at 6:30 at the 5 Seasons Brewery in Sandy Springs. Fred is expected to make his announcement sometime after 7pm.
