A Fond Farewell

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

Ten years ago this past October, I began blogging at Peach Pundit. I’ve seen it grow from a small little place for a few people to discuss Georgia politics to a broadly read, well respected political website. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed (mostly) discussions on every topic imaginable. and had the pleasure of meeting many of you in the “real world.” For that and so much more, I am grateful.

However, there is a season for everything and my season at Peach Pundit must come to an end. So you don’t get the wrong idea, this departure is completely my idea. I told Charlie and the other Editors of my decision over a month ago and at Charlie’s request, I took some time to think it over. I’ve thought it over and still feel it’s time for me to stop blogging. At this point in my life, I need to focus my time and energy on other things.

So I leave my Editorial position at Peach Pundit but will remain a part of the larger Peach Pundit community. I want to thank Erick Erickson for inviting me to write for PP all those years ago. Thank you also to Charlie Harper, Mike Hassinger, Stefan Turkheimer, Jon Richards, Jason Pye, Jessica Szilagyi, Nathan Smith, Lawton Sack, Obi’s Sister, Clayton Wager, George Chidi, Chris Farris, Jeff Emanuel, Grayson Daughters, Chris Huttman, and so many others who helped me along the way and helped grow Peach Pundit. Finally, I want to thank all of you, the readers, without whom none of this would have been possible. I will see you all in the comment section.

Thanks for the years of helping our little PP community along, and we’re going to hold you to your word about hanging with us here in the comment section. ‘See you in the real world, friend.

  3. I respect a partisan warrior as long as you know where he (or she) is coming from and they lay it all bare. Perfect description of Buzz! You will be missed, but I’ll catch you on Facebook and in the comments!

In this time of intense partisanship, we tend to portray those that disagree with us as caricatures, and we come to believe in the caricature as truth. Mean, hateful, selfish, dishonest are words you’ll hear hurled from my side at the other as debates get heated, demonizing those that disagree.

Those words couldn’t be thrown at Buzz, though, or rather they wouldn’t stick. That’s because Buzz was so genuine, so honest, so magnanimous in his person and presentation that it was clear that if he disagreed with you, it was because he honestly believed in his position. It wasn’t pretextual or a talking point.

He and I have debated on the radio, on TV, and in person. And though we were always in opposition to one another, I never felt he was my enemy. He was always my friend, my honest, charitable, dedicated, faithful, and temporarily wrongheaded friend. I’ll miss him on this site, and I’ve learned much from him. But not about policy. He’s totally wrong about that.

It’s been 6 years, December of 2009, since I wrote a similar post leaving the front page. You’re articles and insight surely helped make this website. On to the next thing!

I have appreciated your willingness to put your opinions out in the open here with more candor than we usually get from politicians. I try to read all sides on issues that matter to me and I welcome yours even when you’re wrong 😉
