And finally, George W. Bush enters the 2016 presidential race …

  1. Feeling the Bern says:

Well this is a bit awkward. Nothing about that nice GOP lady who accidently drove into Lake Lanier? What was her name? Mrs. Jennings? Seemed everyone loved her that knew her.

There is not much news of this tragedy, so I was curious. How did she wind up on a boat ramp in a marina? Were signs posted indicating the danger? Was she perhaps returning from a holiday party when this happened? Does she live in the area?

Could alcohol have been a contributing factor? Is she a tea totaler?

Perhaps people that knew her personally could shed some light on this mystery?

  2. saltycracker says:

….spent many years on Lanier, late at night, tired, miss a turn or make wrong turn and road turns into a ramp….best bet unless the investigation floats up a surprise. Sad.

  3. saltycracker says:

A streetcar named desire: when there are a billion reasons why, it exhibits the incredible disconnect the public can have from the taxpayer.

    • saltycracker says:

PS before we spend $5 billion on fixed street cars in finite places in metro sprawl we could hire Uber until Google gives us driverless vans in dedicated lanes dropping us off where we want to go……..

  4. Will Durant says:

Every time I see something about saving the planet it brings George Carlin’s routine to mind and the fact the planet doesn’t need saving. 99.9% of all of the species that have ever existed are now extinct but the planet is still here.

How long does $5B keep you in buses?

We really need to do some serious navel gazing on how we elect our Presidents. Well, and down the line too.

The GOP needs to divorce Fox, Limbaugh, and the other entertainers. Murdoch’s only good contribution to civilization was the Page 3 girls.

    • Dave Bearse says:

The right wing media has a greater entertainment focus, but the center and left wing media are increasingly doing it too.

  5. northside101 says:

So the same Atlanta Falcons who lost 38-0 yesterday in Charlotte and who have never won a Super Bowl in their life are getting a new venue in 2017? Certainly confirms that team performance has no bearing on the ability of team owners to ask (demand) a new stadium. Like “build me one or we are gone.” Think it was the late Lewis Grizzard (when the late Rankin Smith was threatening in the late 1980s to move the Falcons to Jacksonville) who stated “build us a consistent winner, and then we will talk new stadium.”

    • MattMD says:

Team performance has very little do with getting a new stadium. It’s all basically a bidness decision. The new amenities (boxes, restaurants, premium seating’s) in stadiums make a lot of money these days.

    • Dave Bearse says:

I haven’t examined the plan, but I’m not a fan of the current amusement riade.

I agree with you something’s wrong with the cost estimation. The current 2.7 mile long loop cost $98M, or $36M / mile. $100M / mile is a base line heavy rail (MARTA) cost estimate, sans stations.
