On this date in 1962, downed pilot Francis Gary Powers was traded back to the US for Colonel Vilram Fisher. Above, Fisher (in box) at his trial in Russia for espionage. It is also the day they celebrate the shipwreck of St. Paul in Malta. Morning Reads after the jump…

“Europe’s carbon-trading market was supposed to be capitalism’s solution to global warming. ”

Carbon credits are hardly capitalism at work, they are a virtual commodity by the financial too bigs like derivative champion Goldman Sachs and their minions like Gore, Clinton…..unless Ponzi schemes, scams and easy mortgage debt represents one’s idea of capitalism.

Supposedly, Brian Williams’ fate will be announced tonight. Prediction: Minor suspension. If he were conservative, he’d be gone, we all know that. And tomorrow? NBC begins a Nightly News ratings slide of MSNBC-like proportions.

Where do you get this from? Six months seems fairly serious to me.

You do know that the whole “if such and such were a liberal/conservative then X would have happened” make for fantastically boring comments.

      • Noway says:

Hey “Doc”, why don’t you take a gander at the time of my post. It was made before the “sentence” was actually imposed. And six months for a bald-faced lie is rather chicken-****. And your follow-up snark added tons to the discussion, per your usual contribution. Don’t you have some rubber gloves and tubes of KY to count before you see patients today?

  3. Harry says:

Couple of corrections: Spelling of the Russian spy name is Vilyam Fisher not Vilram Fisher, and in the above photo it’s Powers in the box not Fisher. Fisher did time in the Atlanta Federal Pen prior to the exchange.
