Congressman Doug Collins Delivers Northeast Georgia Rebuttal To President Obama’s #SOTU

Congressman Doug Collins (R-GA-09) released this video as a rebuttal to President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address:

  1. Andrew C. Pope says:

He had the ability to record multiple takes, why did they run with a version in which he talked too fast and flubbed multiple sentences? I have the same accent and I couldn’t even understand some of the things he was saying.

I offer this as a critique because I think Rep. Collins has an opportunity to fill some of the leadership void in the Georgia delegation created by the recently forced and/or voluntary retirements of Reps. Gingery, Kingston, Deal, and Linder. As Bobby Jindal learned, it doesn’t matter what you’re saying if you look awkward and uncomfortable in doing it. Sure, a lot of people may not see this video, but if the Congressman is going to up his media presence, he needs to up his media coaching.

  2. xdog says:

That may be his best take.

I agree, he spoke much too fast but he had to squeeze in a bloated response. If he had slowed down and delivered a simplified response, his accent wouldn’t have mattered.

He still was better than Jindal.

  3. gcp says:

Have heard Collins several times and he always speaks fast so that’s nothing new but I think he is one of Georgia’s better congressmen.
