John Barrow, the “Friend” of GA-12

Or at least, that’s how he is portraying himself in his first ad of the 2014 campaign season.

It’s amazing how John Barrow manipulates his voice depending on the audience. He sounds like a perfectly normal person when he’s in DC or Augusta, but he hams it up with a cheesy, over-the-top folksy drawl when he’s in rural parts of the district or on ads like this and on robocalls.

It’s even more amazing that it seems to be working for him so far.

You can’t get elected in Georgia without pronouncing dog as “dawg”. But at least he only used one syllable for “friend”.

I’m familiar with John Barrow, but who is this John Bera guy in the ad? Is he related to the Hall of Fame Yankee’s catcher?

Seriously, John didn’t have this much twang when he was on the Athens City Council, all that time south of the Fall Line is starting to make him too folksy. Look what your redistricting hath wrought, Georgia GOP!
