ATLANTA (June 9, 2014) | Senator Brandon Beach (R- Alpharetta) received the Legislator of the Year award from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB) on Friday, June 6, in Atlanta.

“I was honored to sponsor the Georgia First Informer Broadcasters Act this legislative session,” said Sen. Beach. “This bill facilitates resources by recognizing the dangerous work our local broadcasters take on during emergency situations while in the field. I am thankful for this recognition from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters and look forward to continuing to nurture this relationship with their prestigious organization.”

Sen. Beach was recognized for his sponsorship of Senate Bill 381, otherwise known as the Georgia First Informer Broadcasters Act, which was signed into law in April. SB 381 will advise the unified incident command system and the Georgia Emergency Operations Plan (GEOP) to establish planning for first informer broadcasters while also devising a plan that grants more access to fuel, food, water and other materials necessary for maintaining a broadcast signal.

“Senator Beach’s efforts on behalf of Georgia’s broadcasters directly led to the passage of this bill, which ensures Georgia’s radio and television stations will remain crucial providers of information during times of emergency,” said GAB President Bob Houghton.

GAB is the trade association that represents the interests of Georgia’s over-the-air radio and television licensees who reach more than 95% of Georgia’s population every week. Our membership is comprised of more than 500 radio and television broadcasters. GAB provides technical, regulatory, and advocacy support to our members as well as offering continuing professional enrichment opportunities designed to keep Georgia broadcasters at the forefront of the industry. Brandon has done an excellent job as our senator. He works hard to reach out to the community, and seek solutions. We need more like Brandon!

+1…Congratulations to Senator Beach. I hope that he keeps up the good work in a legislative body that unfortunately does not often get an overabundance of accolades for either good work or hard work.
