Update: Per Todd Rehm, Jack Murphy says “I’m still running”.

Per Zpolitics, Senator Jack Murphy is set to retire.  We covered two of his potential challengers here yesterday (Lauren McDonald III and Michael Williams).  Per the comments in that post, Jack Schiff was also mounting a primary challenge.

The retirement adds to that of Majority Leader Ronnie Chance, Majority Whip Cecil Staton, and Savannah Republican Buddy Carter who is running for Congress.  That’s at least four new Freshmen Senators likely in the very young Republican Senate caucus.  Possibly more, as we’ll see this week with qualifying who is running for re-election, and who draws primary challenges.

Jack Schiff is indeed a candidate in the race for Georgia Senate, Dist. 27. He will qualify on Tuesday. There has been speculation in Forsyth County for more than two years that if Murphy does retire, that longtime Murphy supporters County Commissioner Brian Tam or School Board member Kristen Morrissey would run.

Does this mean resolution of the FDIC lawsuit will occur in the near future?

Charlie, we will see just how well the Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s brand new web-based qualifying system works on Monday. I wonder if it has great pictures like the main website:
