Ok, we’re not entirely sure if this is grandstanding or a way of gracefully bowing out of the 12th Congressional District Republican Primary, but GOP contender Josh Stone has called for a “special district caucus” for the purposes of “selecting a unity candidate to run against incumbent Democrat John Barrow”:
12th District Republican Congressional Candidate John Stone will today call for a special district caucus to help select a unity candidate to run against incumbent Democrat John Barrow.
WHO: 12TH DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE JOHN STONE
WHAT: NEWS CONFERENCE CALL FOR 12TH DISTRICT CAUCUS
WHEN: 2PM, TODAY
WHERE: STONE FOR CONGRESS CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS
4434 Columbia Road, Suite 205, Martinez GA 30909
A couple of things, Georgia doesn’t use a caucusing system in the first place, so I’m not sure what the point would be nor how much participation there would be since this “special caucus” wouldn’t be binding (at least, I don’t believe it would be unless there’s something in the Rules of the Georgia Republican Party that I have missed). Secondly, I don’t believe that this would be endorsed or encouraged by the 12th District GOP or the Georgia Republican Party.
Candidate Stone will probably be going this alone.
