From the Buckhead Coalition:

The Buckhead Coalition has publicly acknowledged its choice of Hala Moddelmog – - incoming president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce – - as the keynote speaker at its 25th Annual Luncheon Meeting.  Although the Coalition’s January meeting is the only one to which non-members are invited, attendance is by invitation only, and structured for area elected officials, heads of other civic associations, and media management.

The Coalition, having just celebrated its Silver Anniversary, is a nonprofit civic organization, much like a Chamber itself, but its Members hold major positions in the business community and are generally supportive of policy positions favored by the Metro Chamber.  It is with this reasoning that the Coalition’s chairman Dave Fitzgerald and president Sam Massell decided to break with its standard policy of bringing in an out-of-town national personality for its formal speaker.  Believing that this long-established last Wednesday in January before this select audience, would be a most appropriate time and place for the Chamber’s first ever female President, and its first executive head in eighteen years, to set the tone for its coming years.

Moddelmog, a Georgia native, picks up the reigns from now retired Sam Williams.  She is a former head of two national restaurant chains, Church’s Chicken and Arby’s Restaurant Group, as well as the world’s largest grassroots organization working to eradicate breast cancer, “Susan G. Komen for the Cure”.

Massell, a former Mayor of Atlanta, explains that whereas the Coalition focuses its efforts and attention on Buckhead, it readily recognizes the importance of being part of the whole, the Atlanta Region.  In this role, he says, “We shall always join with the balance of the City in our common goals and endeavors.
