The Center for Responsive Politics calculated the approximate net worth of members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, based on disclosure filings made last year. For the first time, the median net worth of our representatives in DC is over $1 million.
Our Georgia Reps are apparently less rich than average, however. The median net worth of our 14 representatives and two senators is somewhere between $729,000 and $758,000. The average net worth, however is $2.5 million, boosted by Senator Johnny Isakson. With just over $15 million in the bank, Isakson is the nation’s 14th richest senator. Senator Saxby Chambliss comes in at 92nd, with an approximate net worth of $244,000.
In the House, Rep. Tom Price leads the Georgia delegation with $8.3 million. He’s the 48th richest representative. Rep. Hank Johnson trails the pack, with a net worth of $8,000, making him the 404th wealthiest representative.
Rankings for the entire delegation are below the fold.
Keep in mind that these are estimates. Disclosures use ranges rather than exact numbers. Averaging the minimum and maximum values based on the range provides the approximate net worth. More deets on the methodology here.
