The DPG Gets an Executive Director

Yesterday, news surfaced that the DPG had hired Rebecca DeHart as the party’s Executive Director. She should be formally approved by the DPG Executive Committee tonight.

The hire itself is news but its also important because DeHart is the first ED for the party since Page Gleason resigned almost two years ago. I’d been told that a lone junior staffer was doing basically everything at the party for a long time.

It also shows that Porter seems to getting the DPG’s act together for the 2014 elections and might be raising enough money to, you know, actually function as a political party.

Also, she’s a smart, seasoned campaign operative with a history of success, so things could be shaping up for the better for Georgia Democrats.

Am I right to guess that an executive director wouldn’t be making strategic decisions, and that Porter would be ultimately responsible if the focus on legacy candidates goes badly?
