Channel 2 has revealed new plans from MARTA to extend the Red line north up to Windward Parkway.

It’s not necessarily the expansion that has ruffled feathers. Instead what has caused irritation is the decision to put things on the east side of GA- 400.

“Those that don’t study history are doomed to repeat it,” said Sandy Springs City Councilman John Paulson, referring to the decades-old discussion about extending train service up Georgia 400.

“In the ’90s, when it was announced that MARTA was going to be on the east side, home values right along that stretch just plummeted,” Paulson said.

So Paulson was surprised when MARTA released a map of its updated proposal with tracks running back up the east side of 400.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens as this continues to develop.

And those who don’t recognize current needs and consumers’ desires are idiots. People want rail. Atlanta’s roads are hideously congested. It took 90 minutes to go from Sandy Springs to Grant Park last week in average traffic.

Yeah, that’s real sustainable.
