Senator John Crosby To Retire

The Albany Herald has an article stating that Senator John Crosby (R-Tifton) will not seek reelection in 2014:

Crosby, in a faxed statement Tuesday, said he has enjoyed representing the district, but that the 2014 General Assembly session would be his last. He said the recent death of he and his wife Rose’s daughter, Beverly Clyburn, impacted his decision to leave the Legislature and focus more on home.

“It’s been an honor to serve the people of the 13th District for the past five years,” Crosby said. “I’ve made new friends, and I hope I have made a difference in people’s lives.

“But I’ve got four grandkids that want to go fishing with grandpa and, while I’ve liked being a senator, it’s time to be grandpa for a while.”

Congratulations to Senator Crosby on his retirement.  Now let the speculation on his successor fly about.

This south Georgia district usually votes Republican—for instance, 61 percent for Deal in 2010 and 65 percent Romney last November—in part because of inclusion of heavily GOP Lee County (suburban Albany) in this Senate district. But part of the district goes into Sumter County, home of a certain ex-president and a grandson running for governor. Anyone on how competitive the seat would be with Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter running statewide next year?
