At 10:00am, Republican members of Georgia’s General Assembly will meet to fill three open leadership positions. Donna Sheldon has resigned from the House to run for Congress, opening up the position of Chairman. Ed Lindsey has resigned his position of Majority Whip while running for Congress, though he remains a member of the House. The position of Caucus Vice Chairman is currently held by Matt Ramsey who is running for the open Whip Position.
Per the Peach Pundit Daily (sign up here to get your news a little earlier):
The known candidates at this moment are: For Whip: Jay Powell of Camilla and Matt Ramsey of Peachtree City. For Caucus Chairman: Buzz Brockway of Lawrenceville, Buddy Harden of Cordele, and Matt Hatchett of Dublin. For Caucus Vice-Chairman: Alex Atwood of Brunswick, Jan Tankersley of Brooklet, and Sam Teasley of Marietta.
We’ll leave the interpretation of this race to many of you in the comments, but note that again geography is somewhat in play. Suburban Atlanta vs South Georgia looms large. As does the future of the House leadership team as a whole.
