Syria Hearing: Collins Questions Kerry, Hagel, Dempsey

Doug Collins represents Georgia’s 9th Congressional District and is the Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa.

  1. Dave Bearse says:

Rep. Joe Wilson, the congressman who yelled “you lie” during President Obama’s 2010 State of the Union speech, asked if the administration’s decision to attack Syria was made to distract from other “scandals” like Benghazi and the IRS.

“On April 25, the White House legislative director Miguel Rodriquez wrote that … the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons. With the president’s red line [crossed], why was there no call for military response in April?” he asked Secretary of State John Kerry at a Foreign Relations Committee hearing.

“Was it to divert attention today from the Benghazi, IRS, NSA scandals; the failure of Obamacare enforcement, the tragedy of the White House-drafted sequestration, or upcoming debt limit vote?”

Ideas like this are no crazier nor more frequent than say Hank Johnson saying an island will tip over. Fair and balanced you know.

  2. notsplost says:

While I appreciate Collins at least asking some decent questions, it’s more than a little frustrating that the obvious question keeps not getting asked here.

What proof is there that chemical weapons were used by the Assad regime, and not by others? I am not arguing that they were in fact used, but rather who was really responsible.

If it turns out this was an inside job by elements of Al-Qaeda who wanted to frame Assad, we are going to end up looking very bad. An independent confirmation is needed before moving forward.

  3. KingRichard says:

Bombing Syria is a terrible idea that the American People don’t want to do by a large margin, when will our government work for it’s citizens? What is there to gain? Is this about blood for oil or for natural gas? What does victory look like? I agree with Rand Paul on this issue.

  4. saltycracker says:

Glenn Beck and V. Putin are concerned that in going after Asssad we are aiding the equally bad that is striking fear with videos of an opposition leader carving up an enemy soldier and eating his organs……..geez….
