Carter “Most Targeted” POTUS Ever

Peach Pundit’s favorite presidential Georgia Peach, Jimmy Carter, is apparently the most targeted POTUS.

A new book from Larry Sabato on JFK makes the claim.

From The Washington Examiner:

In “The Kennedy Half Century: The Presidency, Assassination, and Lasting Legacy of John F. Kennedy,” Carter told author Larry J. Sabato that he has faced at least three home-grown assassination attempts since returning to Georgia and is constantly warned by the U.S. Secret Service of personal threats during his frequent overseas travel.

“I have had two or three threats to my life after I came home from the White House,” Carter said in the highly-anticipated book due out October 22. “When I go on an overseas trip almost invariably, I get a report from the Secret Service that where I’m going is very dangerous,” he added in the book provided in advance to Secrets.

Probably true as not many ex-prezs go into countries to monitor their elections and then there are the reports that Harvey, Peter and Bugs have gone rogue.

I’d say it’s probably true. For starters, he’s got the longest ex-Presidency in history, passing Herbert Hoover last year, so he has 32+ years worth of threats out there. Throw in the fact that he’s the ex-President who’s made a career of going to some of the most impoverished, most unstable places in the world to do charity work, fight diseases, promote democracy, and supervise elections instead of making oodles of speakers fees or cushy no-show boardroom jobs, and it’s not surprising at all that he’s the one ex-POTUS who makes the Secret Service the most anxious.

You can thank those Duck Dynasty righties and their beloved guns for the nature of the article you’ve just read. A sad commentary on modern political discourse.
