WSB: Clayton County Police Chief Suspended

WSB TV is reporting that Clayton County Police Chief Greg Porter has been placed on administrative leave without pay:

A person with knowledge of the situation told Channel 2’s Mark Winne that Porter was told the suspension is due to an ongoing GBI investigation. Porter has cooperated with the investigation and maintains his innocence.

The station says he has been relieved of badge and gun, and promises more updates on their evening newscasts.

Not much going on in Clayton that doesn’t raise eyebrows – Interesting approach to public safety – a Police Chief (usually the top dog title for cities) to respond to citizens plus enforce codes (usually done by a Marshall) and a Sheriff (usually the top dog title for Counties) to run the jail –

Isn’t that part of the job for Clayton Co. Sheriff? Commit crime, be indicted, get suspended, run for re-election, rinse, cycle, repeat.
