Berlon Resigning June 9

Embattled DPG chairman Mike Berlon is resigning June 9.

The news isn’t that big a surprise. After his “prepared to resign” email there really was no backing down.

Anyway, he selected the date because the First Vice Chair, Nikema Williams, is vacationing abroad while the General Counsel, Michael Jablonski, is out of the country as well. (Sources inform me that Mrs. Williams is having a lovely time overseas.)

“This is the most appropriate way to proceed,” Berlon said in a statement.

He will not attend the upcoming national party meeting in Chicago.

“I am concerned only about the continuity of our party and ensuring Democrats get back to the business of demonstrating why we are best positioned to lead this state into the future. We have a great opportunity to win a US Senate seat here in 2014. We also have good shot at the governor’s race with the right candidate.”

Emphasis added; also my way of saying no you don’t.

Good Lord. That quote demonstrates precisely why the Georgia Democrats are NOT positioned to lead this state out of a paper bag, much less into the future.

And I say that as a Georgia Democrat. Sigh.
