Possum Dead At Age 81

He may not be from Georgia, but he certainly has had an impact on folks that live in the state and across the country.  George Jones (more affectionately known as “Possum” by his fans) passed away today at age 81.

He was honored by Squidbillies about 2 years ago.

RIP, Possum.  We’ll miss you.

George Jones was is and forever will be country music. Everyone else is just strumming guitars, wearing hats and playing songs.

Thanks for more than 50 years of hits, Possum.

One of my best memories of “No Show” was when Zell introduced me to him at a party while he was Governor – “George, I’d like you to meet my good friend *insert real name*” – and I had the privilege to just talk a while with this country legend. He had a great smile and sense of humor, was a genuine Southern gent and an original if there ever was one. Although most people think of his sad songs, my favorite to see him do was “White Lightening.”
We’ve lost the Dean of Country – RIP, George.
