Sources close to the campaign tell Peach Pundit that Congressman Phil Gingrey, who last month announced he’s running for U.S. Senate, will report strong fundraising numbers and over $2.4 million cash on hand:

Total Raise for First Quarter: $666,399
Total Expenditures for First Quarter: $108,317
CASH ON HAND at close of First Quarter: $2,430,721

The AJC’s Daniel Malloy says Congressman John Barrow, who is emerging as the most likely premier candidate for the Democrats, has raised some money as well:

The AJC’s Jim Galloway says Congressman Jack Kingston, who has all but announced he’s running for the U.S. Senate, raised $843,930.50 in the first quarter.

Is anyone else surprised that Kingston out raised Gingrey by so much? Does Broun stay in with his poor fundraising?

I think Kingston’s contributions increase after his official announcement.

I agree. He is gaining a serious head of steam from what I have seen of the race so far.

A little surprised but it’s close enough to shrug off at this point. We already know Kingston got a big boost from the Deal money men; I am interested in seeing Gingrey’s FEC disclosure to find out where his money is coming from.

I also suspect there’s a lot of Atl money (esp Cobb and Buckhead) waiting in the wings to see whether Price jumps in; if he stays out, then I think the pace of Gingrey’s metro Atl fundraising will accelerate.

If Price is out, that means Handel is in? If so, that hurts Gingrey’s metro Atlanta fundraising efforts.

Kingston has alot of different venues for fundraising not even mentioned he can still tap into. The Jepson family has alot of influence in Savannah. He has some good grass roots high dollar organizers who host fundraising parties. Keep in mind, his district holds every in-state oceanside vaction beach house the donnor class of north Georgia owns. Everyone for 100 or so miles. He has been out almost every summer week-end for the last 20 years Golden Island hopping. I see him out at the Water Festival every May manning a supersoaker as he marches. He’s been to almost every major millitary event he can when he’s in the area (and between Hunter, CG Station Tybee, Ft Stewart, Kingland Bay, and Moody AB, that’s alot events – and spending he helped get to the area). Through appropation he has helped create some nice ‘opportunities’ for his local and even state businesses. Plus he has been moving more to the ‘lower spending’ on related issues in the last few years. Hmmm – could this be why you don’t really hear so much from him on getting congress to pay for what my tea party friend from outside of Georgia called “peach flavored pork” (aka Savannah port deepening).

And speaking of the port, anyone know the number of out of state (and out of country) companies who do business here that he has talked with or visited in his cngressional career? Lets see if he starts getting shipping houses or some other big box company owners listed as donners…

I’d say it like this…Kingston is a porker and knows how to play the game.

One name – two words – Jack Abramoff. Let me know how that goes over.

I was only talking about his fund raising, not the baggage or issues he has to deal with if he want to win the primary. He has some major issues that will not make him the choice of the tea leaning right. He was on appropations during the spending time of 2003-2006. He loved the earmarks. He has made alot of friends and enemies nationally that could effect how he runs his canpaign.

What he does have going for him is who on the national GOP party staff level does not like a few of the others running for this office.
