CPAC: Another Paul Wins Straw Poll, GA State Rep. Makes Appearance

Another year, another CPAC, another Paul wins the CPAC Presidential Straw Poll. Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) squeaked past Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) for the Straw Poll win. Paul received 25% of the vote, Rubio 23% with former Senator Rick Santorum finishing a distant third with 8%.

Meanwhile, one of my new House colleagues, Michael Caldwell (R-Woodstock) spoke at the event. Well done Michael. To view the clip, click here.

  1. The Last Democrat in Georgia says:

I saw Representative Caldwell’s speech at CPAC. He comes across as a bright and talented young man has a very-bright future in public life…If there were more people like him in politics the world would be a much-better place.

  2. Nonchalant says:

The kid looks all of twelve years old. Why would I bother listening to him, given that it is my belief that the state/local GOP does not look for the fittest, but the one who best can make the critical church donor businessman feel good about his beliefs? I find it hard to believe this is the new Henry Clay. Time will tell.

  3. Three Jack says:

Discount him if you like because he ‘looks all of twelve years old’. But Michael is actually doing what he promised during the campaign and deserves credit along with some leeway to see how it plays out (listing every contribution and vote/explanation daily).

I opined previously on another thread that the best ethics reform would be to let legislators do whatever they want as long as it is posted daily. Michael is showing how it can be done, others should follow or face the wrath of their constituents.

  4. Baker says:

If only I could time-travel ahead 30 years and make sure this guy still isn’t there. If he goes out and gets some real world experience after a time in politics, I’m fine with it, I liked what he said at CPAC.

If he graduates college and then proceeds to be in office his whole life, it should be an affront to the Republic.
