At a private event at the Georgian Club tonight, former Republican Congressman and Libertarian Presidential nominee Bob Barr told the group he is running for Congress, in Georgia, for the 11th District. According to reports in to Peach Pundit, Barr was “unambiguous” and has already talked to Republican leadership about his seniority status should he return.
No word from the current Representative of District 11, Phil Gingrey, MD.

Mercy! Give it a rest Bob!
Stay clear if he does any gun demonstrations.
So…one of you pros ‘splain it to me….
Does this mean that 1) Gingrey announces Senate sooner so that 2) Lindsey can announce CD11 sooner to start raising money? Or does it means they announce later (if at all) to do more analysis.
So the guy who denounced the GOP, ran against the Republican nominee in 2008 and sat on the board of the ACLU is going to run in the GOP Primary.
Got it
Yep, he ran against the same guy who had dinner with Obama the other night shortly before calling Rand Paul… what was it, wacko birds? So… what do you have against civil liberties?
Oh, and he’s also on the board of the NRA. The GOP could certainly do much worse.
He also told folks he was running against Tom Graves last time in GA’s 14th.
After testing the waters and discovering his support wasn’t what he thought, he dropped that effort.
Well, the 2008 GOP candidate denounces Republicans all the time. What’s the big deal if Barr does to?
Whatever you may think, believe or prefer, this is going to be fun.
PS: Jason Pye, white courtesy phone, please. Jason Pye, white courtesy phone.
“this is going to be fun”
Oh yeah.
this entire exercise has the potential of clearing alot of deadwood out of the political closets in both Congress and the State Senate……..nothing kills like ambition blind to reality.
Bob Barr has been in search of a position for the past 10 years. Which Bob is running? GOP Bob? ACLU Bob? Or Libertarian Bob?
I take it one cannot be all three? (Though lower L libertarian instead of big L.)
Having ran for President with a somewhat more visible campaign than other such third party candidates–the exception being Perot–Barr should get plenty of money from groups and individuals who would want him in Congress.
11 is going to be a money war. Bet on it.
I guess he won’t star as Frodo’s father in the next Hobbitt movie, huh?
True story. When I was a congressional staffer, folks in Rep. Buddy Darden’s office said that people from the district would call and say, “Bob Barr has a White wife.” That thing tickled us because to some people Barr’s looks a little of “color.” What difference does it make…we have a Black president who mostly hires White GOP males. …deep, in my heart I do believe…bla bla bla
