Dekalb Schools Like Mike

Former Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond is the new Interim Chair of Dekalb County Schools.

He was approved as chair at a Friday vote from the county school board.

“We are delighted Mr. Thurmond has agreed to serve as our interim superintendent,” said Board Chairman Eugene Walker. “Our school district is facing significant challenges, and we need a leader with a strong record of making fundamental changes in large, complex organizations. Throughout our state, you’ll find almost universal agreement that Michael Thurmond has consistently demonstrated those abilities.”

I’ve heard rumors that he wants to run for something again. This seems like a good way to re-establish himself politically, especially considering his disastrous and embarrassing Senate “campaign” in 2010.

Which leads me to my next question: which Mike will we get? While I’m not smart with regards to the internet (or, really, anything at all), methinks he may want to do something about how Google displays his Senate campaign website.

From bad to much worse. Glad my children escaped the Dekalb County cesspool of education before it cratered. I’m sure I will pay the price property value wise.

Ok people. Serious questions here. I don’t know much about Mr. Thurmond other than his failed senate bid and that he was once Labor commisioner. I do not remember that there was ever much or any controversy surrounding him during his time in office (but that’s not saying much considering my memory).

Can ANYONE educate me on why he is a “bad” choice for interim superintendent? Is it because he doesnt come from an education background?

Internet searches and even a search of PP archives havent turned up any answers for me. Someone help me out here. Thanks in advance!
