Union membership is up in the state of Georgia, according to the most recent data release by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
According to the BLS, 171,000 Georgia Peaches were union members in 2012, compared to 153,000 in 2011. That represents 4.4% of all workers, in 2011 that number was 3.5%.
Which is interesting because nationwide, union membership fell from 11.8% of the total workforce to 11.3%.
Also, I’ve heard from multiple sources that state chapters of unions in Georgia are now receiving virtually no support from their nationals and they are almost out of money, except for the Teamsters which have been quite active and successful in recent years.
