Headline Translation Time!

Here’s one from the Washington Post:

Cory Booker to decide within two weeks whether to challenge Chris Christie

link

What it really means, Cory Booker is still annoyed that President Obama cozied up to Chris Christie during the election, whose seat Booker has his eye on. The give and take following the election seems to be that the President would talk to Frank Lautenberg (who is 90) about whether he really wanted to run for reelection in 2014. Hopefully, the President would get him to see the folly of continuing in the Senate until his goldenest of his golden years and thus open up a spot for Cory Booker.

But Obama hasn’t wanted to upset the old codger, and now Booker wants to nudge him into action – thus the above headline.

That’s pretty interesting and unfortunate; I happen to admire both men (inasmuch as you can admire a politician). Hopefully Frank Lauten will swallow his pride. Too bad he can’t do the same for John Lewis.

I was just updated that apparently Biden was deputized to talk to Lautenberg, so it all depends on whether both are up from their naps at the same time.
