The Rome News-Tribune brings us news that the Rome-based transportation unit of the Georgia National Guard is expected to deploy to Afghanistan.

According to the report, Lt. Joshua Combs told members of the Kiwanis Club on Monday saying the Guardsmen would be deployed in 2014.

“One thing most people don’t realize is just how many places the Georgia Guard deploys on these missions,” Combs said.

I would caution both the RNT and PP against citing specific unit force strength and deployment times… OPSEC.

Please. Next you’ll be vetting the Kiwanisans.

I’m glad you reported this, but it just goes to show what the public considers “news” these days. The GA National Guard and its various brigades have been on continuous deployment since 9/11 and this is nothing new to them.
