Gooood morning! Ain’t no Thursday like a Peach Pundit Thursday.
I pinky swear I’m a US citizen: Online voter registration is now available in Georgia.
Georgia
- There’s drama afoot: Fayette County School Superintendent leaves post in January after the school board voted unanimously in June to extend his contract to June 30, 2015.
- Come at me, Bro: Carter Kessler did community service for a DUI at the nonprofit run by his state House opponent, Spencer Frye.
- Ralph Reed steers GOP into high-tech voter targeting
- Gwinnett County has quite the tangled web: Attorneys hint that probe has deepened. Fanning’s cooperation helped charge former Gwinnett County planning commissioner Mark Gary with bribery. Gary was appointed by Fanning’s mother, former county commissioner Shirley Lasseter, and is accused of paying them $30,000 in casino gambling chips for Lasseter’s favorable vote on a $4 million waste transfer station.
- State Auditor Greg Griffin is super popular right now: Nearly 600 government agencies face penalties under immigration law
- The GBI has been busy: DFaCS may move to a central call center instead of county offices.
- City of Bowdon requests GBI probe again. Bridg Note: Any bets on the GBI getting so bogged down that some of the more impactful (and politically charged) cases get swept under the rug?
- Those meddling kids: 35yo Atlantan James Carter IV (Carter’s grandson) arranged Romney video’s release. AJC Political Insider reported on Carter IV Tues, but I haven’t seen it on PP and wanted to note it.
- Mayor Reed Will Veto Panhandling Measure, Says New Plan Forthcoming
- Study pushes offshore wind for Georgia, but Gov Deal not inclined to support
- Forbes: Six Georgians among America’s riches
- Accreditation agency to investigate allegations of DeKalb schools mismanagement
- Macon council sets toughest rules allowed on video poker
National
- VERY presidential, matey.
- All the cool kids are doing it. Don’t you want to be cool?? Online Peer Pressure Boosts Voter Turnout. Bridg Note: Posting an Instagram of my Georgia sticker is really the only reason I go to the polls.
- Nearly 1/3 Of Independents Less Likely To Support Romney After “47 Percent” Remarks
- Probe of Secret Service prostitution scandal may cite White House advance staff involvement
- The Obama You Don’t Know
- Iran ships arms, personnel to Syria via Iraq
- Israel stages largest snap exercise in years deploying troops in the occupied Golan Heights as contingency planning for possible conflicts with Iran and Syria. Bridg note: Me in the Golan Heights last year for your viewing pleasure.

Whatevs
- North Georgia State Fair starts tonight.
- I don’t remotely care about SEC Audibles, but some of you might.
- Riddle me this, Bilbo: The Hobbit Trailer
- You better believe I would: 60% of Smartphone Owners Would Cast Their Ballot on a Mobile App
- Rasmussen: 40% Say Internet Best Way to Get News, 37% Say TV
- Plant Vogtle Unit 1 idled for scheduled refueling. Not particularly riveting except that I learned about 800 workers were brought in for three weeks for the project, and it will equate to about $21M in lost revenue. Nerd.
- BREAKING: Studies show benefits of exercise, bypass surgery for obese

“CBS Atlanta News will work Thursday to find out more about the Fulton County elections chief’s arrest.
According to George Gordon with Alpharetta police, Samuel Westmoreland is serving 10 days in jail for violating the conditions of his probation, but no other specifics were given.

“VERY presidential, matey.”
Stop it.
How do you check picture ID with a mobile app?
RE: Voting turnout/peer pressure.
I don’t know what it says about me, but wearing the “I’m a Georgia Voter” sticker makes me feel superior to others. Especially on runoffs and judicial races. It has nothing to do with encouraging other people to vote.
I naturally feel superior to others and don’t need a sticker to assist with that.
Just as long as you dont go doing any superior dancin…

I also greatly admire a piece that purports to tell us something we “don’t know” which does so by heavily excerpting a book published 10 years ago.
Golan Heights: Obama says give it back. It is a strategic position won after being attacked, it is theirs. But while this is a political blog I do approve of the posting of pics of hot chicks.
{the editor took this one back}
Damn! Where is Modify/Delete when we REALLY need it?? I’d like to take that one back.
Thank you, oh helpful editor.
I read your since censored comment and agreed with it.
Voting by smartphone should be left to American Idol or Dancing with the stars.
‘Smart…’, ‘American Idol’, and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ should never be used together in the same sentence.
That’s a really smart idea Ms. Caly, do you like American Idol or Dancing with the Stars?
Apparently you write like a girl.
Ed just likes trying to bust my chops about something.
bene, isn’t it time you changed your avatar some other clever person/thing? How about someone else from 1950′s TV shows.
Can’t wait for the Hobbit part I of III this December. I’ll be joining a group of my nerdy friends at the midnight showing on December 14th.
In other news. Creative loafing mentioned something about Charlie.

Syndication….when ?
Interesting thing about the online voter registration. I tried it this morning for my mother-in-law, who moved just this year. It doesn’t actually enter you into a database right away, it seems. It just creates a PDF of the voter registration form, filling out the fields with the values you enter online. You still have to print the form and deliver it to the voter registration office, in person or by mail, with the same basic proof-of-no-fraud that everyone has always needed to begin with.
So, it doesn’t look to me like this makes fraud any easier than it has been. Not that fraud is altogether impossible, but at least this new app doesn’t make it worse. And, on the up-side, maybe this will cut down on mistakes due to bad handwriting….
I’d be interested in seeing the studies Deal / spokesman referenced that say Georgia’s coastal wind is “unique” in that existing technologies don’t work. Anyone know where to find them?
Y’all will be glad to know that Obama is considering releasing the ‘Blind Shiek’ to Egypt as a goodwill gesture. He plans to original attack on the World Trade Center and now the Administration is considering releasing this animal? I know that makes me wanna run out right now and vote for our strong leader, Obama.
Seriously? Did you even research this before you said it? This is how stupid untrue lies get spun into facts. I am thoroughly irked.
Well, Lea, let’s just see if, in the coming days, there is anything to this. I heard it in two media sources, radio, as well as one from the Hill. Is it true? I dearly hope not. I do love your screeching defense of your Dear Leader, though. Very touching! I think I need a tissue.
It’s a lie. Totally made up to see how far the rumor would travel and who would fall for it. If I weren’t a nice person, this is where I would jump out and yell “sucker!”.
Maybe, maybe not…

It’s international book week. The rules: grab the closest book to you, turn to page 52, post the 5th sentence as your status. Don’t mention the title. Copy the rules as part of your status.
More good news for Georgia – we’re getting really fat and can qualify for disability:
