Today kicks off the Georgia Republican Party state convention in Columbus. The convention will officially convene at 2p today and then again at 10a on Saturday. We’ll be electing the remaining delegates to the Republican National Convention at the end of August as well as our national committeeman and committeewoman. There will be a banquet at 7p with former Speaker Newt Gingrich as the keynote speaker. There is also our Peach Pundit Roadshow at the LOFT in Columbus starting at 6:30p. See you in Columbus!
Consider this your state GOP convention weekend OPEN THREAD.

Sounds like the Minnesota GOP Convention is a lot like ours.
From Ed Morrissey:
There is a lot of downtime and the vendors hawking the GOP “crap” have been disappointing the last couple years.
Oh, and Jim Galloway points out that former Senator Chip Pearson is running for State GOP Chairman…next year.
Just read in Galloway’s column that Ralston is being an ass in his speech at the convention. He said that only liberals want an ethical government. I guess the corollary to that is that conservatives want an unethical government.
Ralston is a dumbass.
When do they decide if they are moving up alternates? Tom.?
Once credentials makes its initial report and if a county has vacancies and alternates to fill them, alternates will be moved up. It is also up to the majority of the county delegation of who (if anyone) to move up
Galloway reports that “Members of the Capitol Coalition of Conservative Leadership” responded that “Strong ethics and accountability are not a matter of right versus left. They are a matter of right versus wrong.”
Response issued over signature of Julianne Thompson of Georgia Tea Party Patriots; Kay Godwin and Pat Tippett of Georgia Conservatives in Action; and Dan Becker, president of Georgia Right to Life.
I’d call that group rightward looking, wouldn’t you?
I had a great time ….enjoyed seeing lots of old friends and rocking the boat a little. It was a good possible last convention.
