Rep. Tony McBrayer Not To Seek Reelection

My friend and fellow freshman Tony McBrayer (R-Tifton) announced he will not seek reelection, posting this on Facebook last night:

For my FB friends that may not have heard yet, it is with a heavy heart that I am announcing I will not seek reelection to the Georgia House of Representatives. As many of you know, my new House district changed by 80%. After much prayer and some research of the race, it is obvious that it is not in the best interests of myself or the majorityof the citizens of the new district for me to pursue this seat. This is a sad and difficult decision for me because I love serving my current constituents. I thank all of you for your friendship and support during the last two years. I consider public service an honor and I look forward to serving again soon in some future capacity. While God is clearly closing this door, I feel confident that He will open another one in the near future. Have a blessed day!

We’re going to miss Tony. He’s one of the good guys, and was there for all the right reasons.

  1. Wiregrass Dawg says:

Tony is a good guy and I wish him well. Redistricting did him no favors, as his corner of Tift County was drawn into a district dominated by Colquitt County and a part of Thomas.

Sam Watson is a bright, young agribusinessman and family man from Moultrie. He was able to raise over $75,000 in the first quarter, which is very impressive as a challenger. I don’t think the challenge had anything to do with being negative to Tony, but the district simply wanting its own voice.
