Former Athenian John Barrow is now an Augustan.
The four-term congressman sold his house in Savannah and bought one in Augusta on March 15, the Associated Press reports.
Georgia Republicans drew him out of his district in August for the second time. They took out Athens after he won election in 2004 in an effort to turn the swing district red, forcing him to move to Savannah.
So, if you’re keeping score, Barrow once moved from Athens to Savannah after Republicans drew him out of his district. He’s now moved from Savannah to Augusta because he was drawn out of his district. All the while, David Scott has never lived in Georgia 13 while he’s represented much of I-285 in Washington. At least Barrow should have a couple of realtor’s votes.
Barrow has faced residency as an issue in his re-election campaign, despite his control over his residency status. Ironically, the would be challenger who has publicly raised the issue is Maria Sheffield of Mableton Georgia. If you’re unfamiliar with Mableton, look closely at a map of the 12th district (new or old), then look about 100 miles to the northwest. Yep, that’s where the person who wants to represent GA-12 and wants Barrow’s residency to be an issue lives.
Sincerity of issues: It says a lot about a candidate.
