Aued: Barrow Moves To Augusta; Back In GA-12

Blake Aued brings the following news:

Former Athenian John Barrow is now an Augustan.

The four-term congressman sold his house in Savannah and bought one in Augusta on March 15, the Associated Press reports.

Georgia Republicans drew him out of his district in August for the second time. They took out Athens after he won election in 2004 in an effort to turn the swing district red, forcing him to move to Savannah.

So, if you’re keeping score, Barrow once moved from Athens to Savannah after Republicans drew him out of his district.  He’s now moved from Savannah to Augusta because he was drawn out of his district.  All the while, David Scott has never lived in Georgia 13 while he’s represented much of I-285 in Washington.  At least Barrow should have a couple of realtor’s votes.

Barrow has faced residency as an issue in his re-election campaign, despite his control over his residency status.  Ironically, the would be challenger who has publicly raised the issue is Maria Sheffield of Mableton Georgia.  If you’re unfamiliar with Mableton, look closely at a map of the 12th district (new or old), then look about 100 miles to the northwest.  Yep, that’s where the person who wants to represent GA-12 and wants Barrow’s residency to be an issue lives.

Sincerity of issues: It says a lot about a candidate.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure Sanford Bishop hasn’t ‘lived’ in his district in a long, long time. His home is in Washington, DC.

      • Harry says:

Scott and Bishop have something in common besides being Georgia Democratic congressmen…both have a history of relatives on campaign payrolls and government payrolls.

        • CobbGOPer says:

Oh, I think every living relative of Sanford Bishop either currently or has in the past worked for him – directly or indirectly. He’s a pro at taking our tax money and converting it to wealth for his ‘family.’

  1. CobbGOPer says:

BTW, I thought Maria Sheffield actually did move to Dublin to run for the 12th? She has family there or something…

  2. swga resident says:

But our Republican leaders at the federal and state levels made a deal with Bishop that insures he can stay in office as long as he wants – even though in 2010 our Republican congressmen made promises to the contrary. With Bibb County in and Thomas County out, Bishop and his family can continue their corruption at tax payer expense for as long as they wish. Term limits are the only answer.
