Victor Hill Pleads Not Guilty, Hilarity Ensues

Via theAJC:

Former Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill pleaded not guilty Wednesday to 37 charges that included racketeering and theft by taking. He then argued against attempts to prevent anyone from talking about the case against him.

This mess gets even better…

Attorney Musa Ghanayem said Hill is running for sheriff again this year and needs to be able to respond if the incumbent sheriff uses the indictment in the campaign.

Now I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but isn’t there a rule somewhere about running for office while under indictment?

Read the whole article to get the full spectrum of charges against the former sheriff.

You know what really grinds my gears?

People who have been out of office using the term “Re-Elect” in campaigns subsequent to when they have lost.

  2. saltycracker says:

Why the surprise about an elected officials audacity ? The real news will be the Clayton cItizens that would even vote for him.

Heck in Georgia you can get sued by the FDIC for gross negligence in running a bank and be supported by fellow legislators as head of a Senate banking committee. Lots of examples that make Hill look small time self serving.

Are we worried the courts and voters can’t handle it ?

Given the fact that voters in Washington, D.C. re-elected Marion “I’m a crackhead” Berry mayor, then put him on the city council, the chances of Victor Hill winning another election in Clayton County are about fifty percent.

    • Calypso says:

Thanks for the reminder about Sen. JACK MURPHY, that’s Sen. JACK MURPHY (R-Cumming) being sued by FDIC regulators of gross negligence and various breaches of fiduciary duty related to a series of loans made from 2005 to 2007. The FDIC seeks damages of “over $70 million.”

I wonder if his constituents will give him a free pass on election day this November. Does anyone in Cumming read the papers, watch the news, or in general give a rat’s a$$ about who they elect to represent them under the dome?

Somebody needs to go kick MURPHY in the balls.

It’s a cultural thing on appearances: If you’re a looser smoking crack in an alleyway we will spend taxpayer millions on surveilance, sting operations, arrest, conviction, imprisonment & appeals but if you are in a suit on the top floor of a bank building snorting a line, leave that otherwise nice guy alone …..he has friends and can pay for his legal issues.
C, you gotta love that sentence.
