Under House Resolution 1522 by Speaker David Ralston and Reps. Lynn Smith, Doug Collins, Christian Coomer, John Yates and Ron Stephens, February 22, 2012 was declared “National Guard Day.” The House observed a moment of silence and the sacrifices of the 45 Guard members who have given their lives were recognized, as were their families and all who serve.
Adjutant General and former Senator Jim Butterworth attended, and the Speaker, Gov. Deal and Lt. Gov. Cagle addressed some of the Guard members and families privately.
Rep. Tommie Smith (R-Nicholls), who has introduced ethics reform legislation appeared in a press conference in conjunction with “Tea Party Day,” which attracted a several dozen citizens and a couple television cameras.
