The unintended consequences of limiting lobbyist gifts to legislators

I’m not saying that California’s $10 per month limit on lobbyist gifts to legislators caused California Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi (D-Hayward) to shoplift a $2450 pair of leather pants from the Neiman Marcus in San Francisco.

But why would we take the chance of causing a spate of legislators shoplifting to meet their basic need for leather pants by limiting to $100 the value of gifts that lobbyists may give to legislators?

Yeah, we have one of the least attractive legislatures in the nation. Sucks, nothing to look at.

When I see Legislators from other states, I realize how good ours are. Even our Demoncrats are pretty decent compared to Republicans elsewhere.

    Suggested press release:
Assemblywoman Hayashi’s benign brain tumor is causing memory or behavioral problems thus she will not be stepping aside since the tumor seems to be enhancing typical legislative duties and plausible deniability.
