The AJC has confirmed, that State Representative Bobby Franklin has passed.
According to a friend of Franklin’s whom I’ve spoken with, he had long suffered from cardiac issues and had recently been battling chest pains. When he failed to show for a medical appointment, his home was checked where he was found dead of what appears to be a heart attack.
He was a lightning rod at times, but no one ever questioned where he stood on an issue. I’ll have more to say about Rep. Franklin later. For now, please keep his friends and family in your prayers.
Buzz: I wanted to add short comment. I had met Bobby a few years ago but this year I got to know him a little better. Perhaps more than any elected official I know of, Bobby Franklin stuck to his principles and I respected him for that. Rest in peace Bobby.
Updated with a statement from Governor Deal:
Deal statement on death of Rep. Bobby Franklin
“I was shocked and saddened to hear of Rep. Bobby Franklin’s death. Bobby served the people of Georgia as a representative from Cobb County for nearly 15 years, and he never wavered in his conviction to his principles. He staunchly defended our Second Amendment rights, and he passionately promoted the sanctity of life. The unexpected loss of a colleague at such a young age compounds the tragedy. Sandra and I extend our sincerest condolences to the Franklin family; we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
