SB 10 – The bill that allows local referendums to allow alcohol sales in stores on Sundays, has just passed the house, 32-22. More deets in a few, with some pics.
The bill passed clean, so if the House can and will pass as-is, it does not have to come back to the Senate for more Kabuki Theater. My gut is that Senators on both sides of this bill don’t want to see it again, in any form. The bill divided leadership and was producing massive infighting that threatened to move beyond closed doors many times.

Can’t wait to see the “yeas” and “nays” by name.
Cooincidently, it passed the Senate with almost exactly 60% of the vote…which also reflects the sentiment of the State as a whole (if you believe in polls).
The list is below.
Zombie legislation!
Haha +1
Well, zombies eat brains, and they say alcohol kills brains cells, so this is true in more ways than one.
YES! Score 1, for the good guys!
I’m ready to vote TODAY!
Trying to post some pics. Bear with me while I get them sized. The visual roll call up first, I think you an click on it to see larger/full pic.
Nope. trying again…
I typed the list from your FB picture. It is below.
OK, you’re not as dead to me now as you once were.
He still doesn’t drink sweet tea, hi-ever. If he didn’t carry such a good pedigree, I’d be wary.
Sigh, but still dead. Can I at least be a zombie?
Charlie killed Peach Pundit again.
My senator voted for it. Was happy to vote for him previously. Will be proud to vote for him again.

Lawton, had Jack Hill been public with his stance? Just curious.
Not that I know of. Of course, this bill was dead until the first of this week.
This is good. To me the issue was not about whether or not being able to purchase alcohol on Sunday is allowed. It was about local control and letting the voters in the counties decide what they want. Aren’t conservatives supposed to support local control? Never saw why this bill was an issue to begin with.
Never saw why this bill was an issue to begin with.
Debbie, because the wannabe theocrats in the senate know better than us adults what’s good for us.
Looks like Sen. Fort couldn’t rally enough Senators to the cause.
Wasting no time, House Regulated Industries Chairman Roger Williams has scheduled a committee meeting for 9:00am, March 22nd, with the Sunday Sales bill on the agenda.
I was in the gallery for the whole show and posted play by play on the Georgians for Sunday alcohol sales FB page. It was a long debate but definitely had identifiable stages.
1) Bill was introduced with 5 amendments submitted right out of the starting gate.
2) Amendments presented and debated. Amendments ranged from reasonable to absolutely absurd.
3) Reasoned, intelligent debate dominated the first hour and a half with several attempts by the opposition to switch the topic from LOCAL CONTROL to demon rum and its effects on individuals, the community, the state, America, the world, outer space, etc.
4) With possible passage looking more probable by the minute, the drama queens and the theocrats turned up the volume. Thousands of Georgians would die on the road on Sunday, drunks would dominate every community, domestic abuse would exponentially multiply on Sunday and before they were done, somehow abortion was thrown in.
5) IMHO, the most dramatic display of the day was from Sen. Bill Heath of the 31st, who fought back crocodile tears as he feigned reluctance go to the well to speak against this catastrophic (my word) bill. In his closing comments, he tearfully and with the appropriate pause for sniffles related a tragic tale of one of his constituents. I will say that he did succeed in making those in the gallery cry but not for the same reason he was crying. 😉
6) After all was said and done with SB 10 ready to be voted on, Sen. Vinson Forte made a motion to table the bill. Of course, the motion failed and the bill passed 32 to 22.
For the record, watching the drama queens and the theocrats today was painful and actually a little frightening to know that these people bring that much ignorance to the Gold Dome. 🙁
