Rumor Has It…

That Congressman Hal Rogers (R-Kentucky) is presumed to be the next chairman of the Appropriations Committee in the US House over our own Jack Kingston by ABC News:

The front-runner is Hal Rogers (R-Kentucky), a 16-term Congressmen who known for funneling taxpayer money for pet projects in his district – and far beyond. Roger’s has brought so much federal money to his hometown (Somerset, Kentucky; population 11,000) that it is known as Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. There’s a $52 million National Center for Hometown Security. The tiny airport that received $17 million in federal dollars but has so little traffic that the last commercial airline pulled out in February. And then there’s the Hal Rogers Parkway, which was formerly known as the Daniel Boone Parkway before being renaming for Kentucky’s Prince of Pork.

And for what it’s worth, here is the vote from the Tea Party Patriots’ conference call last week:

Appropriations Committee Chairman:
Congressman Jack Kingston 85%
Congressman Jerry Lewis 15%
Congressman Harold Rogers 5%

The vote will take place Wednesday.

Speaker-designate John Boehner may be preparing to toss the Tea Party a bone by backing pork-buster Rep. Jeff Flake of Arizona for the Appropriations committee.  This maneuvering might be for fiscal watchdogs just in case Kingston doesn’t get the chairmanship.
