Sabato Moves GA-8 to Toss-up

From CenterForPolitics.org’s Crystal Ball by Larry J Sabato:

GA-08 (Marshall-D): Democrat Jim Marshall has been a perennial Republican target, and they certainly have found the year, and the candidate, to make a serious race. Republican Austin Scott has been named an NRCC “Young Gun,” signaling the national GOP’s support and it came coupled with a NRCC-funded TV ad targeting Marshall’s voting record. Both sides’ polling shows Marshall in the lead, but narrowly and he is under 50%, a scary place for a four-term incumbent to be given the Republican tilt of the district and the especially-Republican year 2010 is shaping up to be. The Crystal Ball moves this race from Leans D to Toss-Up.

You are serious? You’ve never heard of Larry Sabato? How long have you actually been following politics? Just so you know, Larry Sabato is a professor of political science at the University of Virginia. He is also a very well-recognized political analyst who is correct far more times than he is incorrect. He founded “Sabato’s Crystal Ball” which is a free public service which is intended to spark the interest of average voters and political junkies.

To give you a for instance, in 2002 he correctly predicted 433 out of 435 House seats and 32 of 34 Senate races. In 2004, he had a 99% accuracy rate, missing only one House and one Senate race. 2006 brought him to 100% accuracy. And, in 2008, he was one point off when predicting the Electoral College vote. With stats like these, he has earned great respect. He’s like the old E. F. Hutton commercials — when he speaks, people listen and pay attention. In other words, if he’s saying that the 8th is now a toss-up, something tells me you can take it to the bank that the 8th is a toss up. I’m sure that this is not the words that those of you who are supporting Marshall would want to be hearing, and, more particularly Jim Marshall himself.

    • I don’t know any other way to put this, “HUH?????”

What third-party website? There is no advocacy there, just polling numbers and analysis.

Have you never actually heard of Larry Sabato or are you joking?

If you’ve never heard of him, then it’s good to see you attempting to become informed.
