Linda Carsten Responds To B.J. Pak

I was forwarded a letter from Linda Carsten in response to this piece I posted Friday. In addition, there were two quotes attached referenced in the letter. They are each included below.

Dear Friend,

Yesterday you received a mailing from my opponent, BJ Pak, attacking me for accepting a personal campaign contribution from my friend, Victoria Chacon, owner of an Atlanta-based publication called La Vision.
Victoria and I are long time friends who openly disagree on politics — but we are personal friends and always will be. I am a strong supporter for tough measures to stop illegal immigration.

Because we disagree on issues, Mr. Pak wants me to return her campaign contribution.

Mr. Pak didn’t tell you that many of his contributors are attorneys who defend illegal immigrants in court. But he won’t return those contributions, totaling $6450

Also, one of Mr. Pak’s contributors is former Supreme Court Justice Leah Sears-Collins the most liberal judge ever to sit on Georgia’s Supreme Court. Sears-Collins donated $500 to Pak according to his June 30th campaign disclosures.

Judge Sears was a leading voice on the Court for the abolition of the death penalty for even the most violent of criminals. But he won’t return that campaign contribution.

Mr. Pak also sent you a provably false story about me that 20 years ago I was a member of a Women’s Republican club that supposedly was disbanded because it couldn’t account for $4,500 of funds. That simply did not happen, and statements are included in this envelope that directly repudiates these false claims.

That statement — for which Mr. Pak knew the truth (as he is a lawyer) — is utterly false.

There is a gutter side to politics where candidates say almost anything to get people to vote for them. Candidates — like Mr. Pak — stop relying on real evidence and proof and simply start using misleading lies and distortions.

I ask you for your vote because our country needs to elect more citizen-legislators to government — not more people with direct business interests voting on legislation which affects their own finances. We need legislators who will do what is right for the state and country — not just right for their line of work and their own financial benefit.

And we need legislators who will tell the truth — the whole truth, not parts of it — and do it all of the time — not just some of the time.

Sincerely,

Linda Carsten

“ Linda Carsten is a very dear friend of mine for many years. I know her to be a staunch supporter for enforcing our illegal immigration laws. We discuss and debate this issue on a regular basis and she never wavers and neither do I. Who I make political contributions to is my right as an American citizen. No one, including B J Pak, Linda’s opponent, has a right to attack me personally for whom I give contributions to. Or to attack my publication and distort my quotes or quote me for general news articles that appear in many other publications. I support Linda because I know her to be an honest, straight talking, ethical woman who would never compromise her principles. And that is what the voters of House District 102 deserve.”

Victoria Chacon, President & CEO La Vision

“ B J Pak has sent out a vicious campaign mailer accusing Linda Carsten of misspending monies from our Republican Women of Gwinnett organization in 1995. Pak needs to get his campaign to retract this lie and distortion of the facts. Let me set the record straight. I was Vice President of the organization and know that our organizations funds were given to political candidates and various Gwinnett based charitable organizations, including the Battered Women’s Shelter and the Children’s Shelter. Linda Carsten was never accused or implicated of any involvement in the misspending of funds from the organization. In addition, the B J Pak campaign has alleged that the organizations charter was revoked; this is patently false. As a founding member of Republican Women of Gwinnett I would challenge anyone to research this issue for the facts, obviously, the Pak campaign did not. Linda Carsten is a person we can trust to represent us with integrity and help the citizens of House District 102.”

Legal or illegal if someone is accused of a crime they do have the right to have a lawyer. Is she suggesting that if an illegal immigrant is accused of a crime that we should just throw them in jail for life? Or is she suggesting if an illegal immigrant is accused of murder we just deport them? In all due respect Linda Carsten needs to do a little homework before running for office!

…..Mr. Pak didn’t tell you that many of his contributors are attorneys who defend illegal immigrants in court. But he won’t return those contributions, totaling $6450…….

I try not to set the standards too high for comments, but that was just asinine. Is that really what you got out of the article? That somehow the candidate doesn’t understand that there is a right to counsel for a defendant in this country? (interesting that Mr. Pak trumpets his prosecution of illegal immigrants as a sign that he is strong on immigration…wouldn’t taking money from those who defend illegal immigrants cut against that? Duuuuurrrrrr….)

The point that I think was being addressed was that Mr. Pak seems to be a hypocrite. You can’t play the ‘guilt by association’ card when you are taking money from people with the same values that you are trying to pin on the contributors of your opponents.

So, I guess based upon Mr. Pak’s original mailer and those joined in with him, anyone that has taken any money from a liberal should be cast into the pit of fire. Interesting considering the connection to Leah Ward Sears. Of course, she is friends with Justice Thomas who is also a friend of Justice Ginsberg who probably has picked up the tab on occasion when the Nine have lunch. They are all in a plot and should be cast into the pit of fire together!!!! New Policy!!!! All Justices must pay for their own lunch lest our Judicial Branch be compromised by the views of others wanting to pay for Chipotle!!!!

Is Mr. Pak some sort of modern day Matlock? Unwinding all of the non-related clues and seemingly insignificant details to wind a yarn of conspiracy and gotcha while the witness is on the stand. Just stupid stuff. And it makes him look like an ass for taking money from Justice Sears.

Matlock- “I know you killed the stripper because you were the only other person at the strip club.”
Defendant- “Wait, you were also at the strip club with me and the stripper?”
Matlock- “No, No, No…this is about you…not me. You were the only person besides me that was there.”

Talk about the issues and where you stand and what you’ve done and where your opponent stands and what they’ve done and make sure you ‘do your homework’ on your own donors if you are going to try the guilt by association crap.

        Bgsmallz,

As I said I know nothing about this election I do not live in the area. Yet the statement I pointed is out is very disturbing for anyone who respects the rule of law.

What’s with the rhetorical questions on this thread that have no connection to anything other than the commenter’s self induced world of make believe? (ha ha ha !!! did you just see that! I just blew your mind because I can do it too!)

I love this: “Is she suggesting that if an illegal immigrant is accused of a crime that we should just throw them in jail for life? Or is she suggesting if an illegal immigrant is accused of murder we just deport them?” Simple answer. uhhh…no. Long answer…With all due respect, I think you just pulled both of those assumptions out of your rear end.

” In all due respect Linda Carsten needs to do a little homework before running for office!” Yes, Linda! Do your homework!!! You should be able to anticipate rhetorical questions from a loony tune that have nothing to do with or have any relation to the written statement you issue!

Is she asserting that illegals should all be dressed up in lederhosen and forced to listen to redneck cover bands play 70s power ballads at Octoberfest in Helen, GA? In all due respect, do your homework!

Rule of Law!!! Rule of Law!!!

    Gotta love politics….
Follow the money: So would you expect quid pro quo at $7K or $500 ?
$7,000 in donations from one friend & her publication trumps a bunch of lawyers tossing around chump change.

JK’s questions are a leap of faith to discredit an answer that can be empirically discredited – thus begging backlash…..
