A Georgian and a Hero

I regret that it has taken so long for us here to note the life and supreme sacrifice of U.S. Army 1st Lt. Robert W. Collins, 24, of Tyrone, who died April 7 in Mosul, Iraq, when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. Collins was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Collins’ family has formed the 1LT Robert Wilson Collins Patriot Spirit Scholarship in his memory, which will award one scholarship to a deserving Sandy Creek High School student each year. If you would like to contribute, send your check in care of The Bank of Georgia, 100 Westpark Drive, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269.

May his family find some comfort in that his sacrifice is one which we honor and which the Republic will never forget.

Rock of the Marne, Lt. Collins.
