I try not to watch local TV news, sorry.

Did look it up. Here's the money quote:

<i>"To ensure that there is no ambiguity on this point, the secretary of HHS is preparing to issue regulations next month making it clear that the term 'pre-existing exclusion' applies to both a child's access to a plan and his or her benefits once he or she is in the plan for all plans newly sold in this country six months from today," HHS spokesman Nick Papas said.</i>

Did you watch Channel 2 news tonight? In reporting, one of the anchors said a loophole was found regarding children with preexisting conditions that could be used to hold out on those kids until 2014. I didn't hear the entire piece, did you?

My understanding was that rescission elimination was immediate along with no pre-existing conditions for children. That expands to no pre-existing conditions for all after the mandate and exchanges are in place in 2014 (they need to be tied together for cost reasons).

This also covers some of the basic tentpoles of the bill in a timeline from now to 2018.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/03/21/AR2010032103485.html

Though I think on the six months end, they're referring to rescissions being outlawed rather than the end of pre-existing condition exclusions which I understood to take place in 2013-2014

That looks nice in theory, but wouldn't that lead to only rich people with stocks being elected?

Which is different from now, how?

Show me a candidate that's signed a "I pledge to DISMANTLE THE MASSIVE WELFARE STATE" pledge, that's what I want.

Oh, I went there.

Interesting. I wasn't even aware of the Federal High Risk Pool program starting in 90 days... and even now I'm having a hard time Googling any links with substantive information about it.

It's REALLY difficult to find worthwhile material on this entire subject. Most of the posts on Peach Pundit seem to be crazy people babbling about nationalization and killing Grandma. The mainstream media only talks about the personalities and horse race stuff, with an occasional bare bones bullet-point list on the actual substance. Are there any decent "grown up" sites that simply lay this stuff out in a plain way without all the armageddon spin?

Most importantly, the Federal High Risk Pool starts in 90 days.

The CLASS Act starts in 2011.

The FDA can now approve generic versions of biological therapies.

Pretty good stuff.

And we can start right here:
"“Benefits” don’t start until 2014". Not so.

Within the first year
• Young adults will be able stay on their parents' insurance until their 27th birthday.

• Seniors will get a $250 rebate to help fill the "doughnut hole" in Medicare prescription drug coverage.

• Insurers will be barred from imposing exclusions on children with pre-existing conditions.

• Insurers will not be able to rescind policies to avoid paying medical bills when a person becomes ill.

• Lifetime limits on benefits and restrictive annual limits will be prohibited.

• New plans must provide coverage for preventive services without co-pays.

• A temporary reinsurance program will help offset costs of coverage for companies that provide early retiree health benefits for those ages 55 to 64.

• A 10 percent tax will be imposed on amounts paid for indoor tanning services on or after July 1.

• Businesses with fewer than 50 employees will get tax credits covering 35 percent of their health care premiums.

I understand you think they're real, but we've had open threads on it and you haven't expressed those fears so far ... at least not further than party-line political stuff. Enlighten us with your fears and we'll either all be afraid together or maybe we'll get more information out there to allay those fears. BB and I have had some good discussions on this. I don't expect to change his mind, but I do expect that we'll both be smarter by the end of the conversation.

There's a real bill now! We can talk facts and not suppositions or conjecture.

Hi ByteMe,

Are you sure I'm smarter than that? There are days I question it myself. :-)

Even if it's 2013, which is the most reasonable date, then the pledge still holds.

"Benefits" don't start until 2014, so 2013 is the possibility I'm hoping for. I know we disagree, but for the record, my concerns about the health care package are real, not just politics.

Hi Dan,

<i>I bet anyone a $$$$Gozillion Dollars, that if the GOP ever returns to power and control they will not repeal this</i>

We both know that will be the price of a cup of coffee in a couple of more years. :-) Invest now in whatever company makes the ink for printing dollars.

Anyway, I hope you're wrong. We had better repeal it!

And while I'm at it -

<b>GOOD FOR ANGELA HICKS FOR MAKING THAT PLEDGE!</b>

Hi Dan,

I bet anyone a $$$$Gozillion Dollars, that if the GOP ever returns to power and control they will not repeal this

We both know that will be the price of a cup of coffee in a couple of more years. Invest now in whatever company makes the ink for printing dollars.

Anyway, I hope you’re wrong. We had better repeal it!

And while I’m at it –
