Podcast with Brian Kemp

On Monday, I had the chance to sit down and talk to Secretary of State Brian Kemp about some of the legislation he is backing, such as online voter verification and making it easier for military and Georgia residents living outside the state or country to vote in election. We also discussed some ideas to lower regulatory costs for business.

Kemp was appointed at the end of year by Gov. Sonny Perdue after Karen Handel decided to focus her efforts full-time on her bid for Governor. He is running in the GOP primary for Secretary of State (against Doug McGinnitie). You may recall that Kemp was appointed after State Rep. Jim Cole, Perdue’s first choice, decided to take the Atheletic Director job at Mercer.

You can download the podcast here (about 33 minutes/29MB, right click, “Save File As” to download).

Next week, I’ll be chatting with Rep. Paul Broun, who may or may not have been sworn into office.

If you have a candidate, no matter what party, that you would like for me to interview or questions that you would like for me to ask an upcoming guest, please drop me a line on Facebook or send an e-mail.

I like Brian Kemp and this is nothing against Doug, but Brian is very qualified for this office. And he is a bright guy and will do a fine job.

“…is very qualified for this office.”

That’s fine, but is he the MOST qualified in the race? I would argue not. Not by a long shot. Doug MacGinnitie has one of the more impressive private sector resumes we’ve seen on a ballot in Georgia in a long time. I think Erick Erickson put it best “We need him in office” and “resume custom made for the job”

Ok, I’m done. Let the Kempuppets attack away. Mind you, I didn’t “attack” your guy. Just pointed out there is a better alternative.

        BuckheadConservative,

I am not a Kemp puppet. I never said anything negative about Doug and do not even know him. I have met Brian a few times and talk to him about policy issues. And that is the extent of my relationship to Brian.

And as I said the few times I have met him, I found him to be a very bright and competent guy. But in no way am I associated and or affiliated with the Kemp campaign. In fact I have not even talked to Brian in over 2 years the best I can re-call.

Finally, agree or not with me, I would be shocked if people thought of me as puppet. If anything, my reputation is I am outspoken not really beholden to anyone.

John, I believe you misunderstood. I was not refering to you as anyone’s sock puppet. I was simply preparing for the typical barrage from sock puppets that comes when anything positive it said about Doug MacGinnitie on this blog.

I know you’re an independent thinker. Maybe I chose my words poorly. I apologize

        • Doug Deal says:

          John,

So do you have any problem with the way he was appointed? Or the fact that Sonny did it to intentionally tip the scales in his favor and take the election out of the hands of the voters?
