Video: Deal still pursuing Obama’s birth certificate

by Jason Pye on February 9, 2010

Loren Collins sends along a video of a local birther (who has tried to indict President Barack Obama in a common law grand jury) that approached Rep. Nathan Deal, a candidate for governor, at the Georgia Christian Alliance held the Faith, Family and Freedom Kickoff and asked him about the president’s citizenship.

Deal says that the doesn’t “shy away from hard questions” like Obama’s birth certificate. What conspiracy theorist doesn’t think they are asking “hard questions”? Jim Garrison was asking hard questions when he unsuccessfully tried Clay Shaw for the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The 9/11 Truthers believe they are asking “hard questions.” The one common theme is they all rely on conjecture and half-truths and no amount of evidence is enough for them.

He adds that the president can clear this up by telling him where he can direct his constituents, who Deal blames for his crusade, where they can go “to see authentic documentation, that he says is authentic, to satisfy their curiosity.”

Obama’s birth certificate has been online since June 2008. It has been independently examined and determined to be legitimate. Since there is a legitimate copy online, why hasn’t Deal directed his “constituents” (and I doubt he is referring to the citizens of Georgia’s Ninth Congressional District at this point) there to view it for themselves. Is Nathan Deal calling this copy a fake?

Here is the video:

It does sound as though he still questions the authenticity of the document. It also appears, in the way he stumbles every time he uses the word “constituents,” that’s he’s really stretching on that one. I did agree with him about one thing though and that was his referenced to “politically incorrect” paralyzing our country. It is to a degree.

Here’s another candidate that should just go away. Friends of ours who live out of Georgia kid us about the “crazy” Congressman who is pursuing this birther thing and running from cameras. He has the potential to make Georgia a laughingstock.

ByteMe February 9, 2010 at 9:07 am

Are his real constituents thinking he’s Cynthia McKinney in a man’s body?

polisavvy February 9, 2010 at 9:23 am

Hahaha!! That’s funny!! You’re on a roll today!! :)

Mad Dog February 9, 2010 at 12:53 pm

Here we must diverge to define the real meaning of real. Can our minds engage fantasy until it becomes real and we think we have people following us?
And what is the meaning of having people following us? If you can see them, they’re not very good at following you. If you can’t see them, they’re very good at following you. Be concerned with the latter and not the former.

BillinSuwanee February 10, 2010 at 3:29 pm

Byte… Nathan Dudd does boast that he is working closely with John Lewis on the water issues. Maybe he intends to cross dress as Cynthia McKinney.

ReaganRepublican February 9, 2010 at 8:18 pm

Aren’t there bigger issues that the folks at Peach Pundit could worry about? Nathan has discussed jobs, transportation, economic development. He has the strongest record of any candidate, Democrat or Republican, on health care, immigration, and water.

ready2rumble February 9, 2010 at 8:42 pm

Strong record on water? What’s his record on water?

Romegaguy February 9, 2010 at 10:05 pm

I’ll list all of Congressman Deal’s Legislative accomplishments here. Ready?

BillinSuwanee February 10, 2010 at 3:32 pm

ReaganRepublican,

Ronald Reagan once said; “You can’t be for big government, big taxes, and bid bureaucracy and still be for the little guy.”

Nathan Dudd voted for;

1. No Child Left Behind – Big government
2. Medicare Prescription Drug – Big Taxes/Spending
3. Homeland Security – Big Bureaucracy

What is it about Socialism that Nathan does NOT like?

Nathan Dudd is NO Reagan Republican … he is a Repubic … a closet Liberal/Socialist.

benevolus February 10, 2010 at 5:12 pm

Reagan failed to mention Big Business? I’m sure they are for the little guy. Ahem.

Kudos, Harry. You’re citing a source that retracted that ‘expert’ opinion a year and a half ago. Less than three weeks after your “document forensics expert” claimed to have found evidence of forgery, he was revealed to be a huge phony who’d lied about his credentials.

Harry February 9, 2010 at 6:33 pm

The facts are the facts. The document is a fake.

the “revealed as so much hot air” link seems to be non-existent. Or expired or something. So maybe you can find another link for the confession and retraction of this guy’s 300 page analysis of the document. Or not. :)

kim000 February 9, 2010 at 8:05 pm

The Birther movement is a manifestation of a cultural opposition to Barack Obama being the president of “their” country. To them, “its just not right” for this man to be who he is, and yet be Head of State and Head of Government. So don’t waste your time trying to produce evidence to satisfy the birth certificate demands of the Harrys of the world. NO AMOUNT OF EVIDENCE WILL EVER SUFFICE. Sane Republicans just wish that they would find a home outside of the Republican Party.

ReaganRepublican February 9, 2010 at 8:22 pm

He has stated, repeatedly, that this is simply a request on behalf of constituents in the 9th District.
If you read the actual letter sent to the White House, he states that he does not doubt the validity of the President’s birth certificate, but by releasing the information it would simply close the debate completely

ByteMe February 9, 2010 at 8:33 pm

by releasing the information it would simply close the debate completely

So that makes him either a fool, a liar, or just plain weak, since the information was released over a year ago and yet Deal won’t tell his mythical “constituents” where to find this information and to get out of their mother’s basement and get a life.

ReaganRepublican February 9, 2010 at 8:59 pm

I believe great U.S. congressman faithfully reflect the opinions of his constituents, or leads them , by acting and voting as he, from his privileged vantage point, thinks best. I know that in the 9th district Nathan Deal has always done this. That is why he is the most loved congressman by his constituents ever. The majority of 9th district residents like myself want to see more concrete proof BHO’s place of birth. Come next July we will show you where the GOP base really is……

ByteMe February 9, 2010 at 10:27 pm

The majority of 9th district residents like myself want to see more concrete proof BHO’s place of birth.

So since Deal won’t tell you, let me:

The information was released and verified over a year ago. Get out of your mother’s basement.

If you represent the GOP base, the GOP is going to be extinct soon enough.

BillinSuwanee February 10, 2010 at 3:35 pm

ReaganRepublican,

Wrong. I live in the 9th District. No one here actually cares. Nathan is doing this because it plays in North/Coastal/and Southern Georgia.

Nathan Dudd thinks he has the 9th District sewn up. So, he is trying to garner much needed support in the the other areas of Georgia.

He will fail because he is a Repubic … closet Liberal/Socialist. Hey remember he was elected to Congress as a Democrap.

The “Real Deal” is exposed for all to see.

griftdrift February 9, 2010 at 9:04 am

Rumor has It Nathan Deal is a closet PUMA! I heard from friend who knows a friend that is neighbor of a friend of a friend that they have the evidence. TMZ will more than likely be all over this story. Remember you heard it here first!

BTW I am little confused what does this have to do with being Governor of Georgia? Is this one of the major focus issues of the Deal campaign for Governor? Instead of dealing with real issues facing Georgia, if elected Governor would Deal spend his time on other national conspiracy theories?

DB…..Investigations for my new book, Wingnuts, revealed that the Birther conspiracy theory was first concocted by renegade members of the original Obama haters, Party Unity My Ass, known more commonly by their acronym, the PUMAs. They were a splinter group of hard-core Hillary Clinton supporters who did not want to give up the ghost after the bitter 50-state Bataan Death March to the 2008 Democratic nomination.

In the early summer of ‘08, message boards on sites like PUMAParty.com began lighting up with the ultimate reversal-of-fortune fantasy—that their party’s nomination could be overturned on constitutional grounds. “Obama May Be Illegal to Be Elected President!” read one representative e-mail: “This came from a USNA [U.S. Naval Academy] alumnus. It’ll be interesting to see how the media handle this…WRITE TO YOUR LOCAL newspaper editors etc. Keep this out there everyday possible. Also write to the DNC too!”

That June, the Obama campaign released his certificate of live birth on its Web site as part of its “fight the smears” effort. Factcheck.org and other organizations examined the document in person and declared it genuine: “Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.” But posters at the PUMA sites were unimpressed: “Nobody believes it’s for real, except the Kool-Aid drinkers themselves.”…..

–sigh–

Is there anything we can do to get Deal to drop this nonsense? It makes him look like a wacko.

Harry February 9, 2010 at 9:50 am

Don’t be so sure that more evidence will be forthcoming. If Obama and his supporters have attempted a fraud or coverup, likely more information will be forthcoming. Several of Obama’s relatives in Kenya have been muzzled by the Kenya government. If they decide to talk, or vital records employees in Hawaii decide to talk, then things could get interesting. Just saying.

polisavvy February 9, 2010 at 9:59 am

polisavvy February 9, 2010 at 11:30 am

Funny! :)

Maurice Atkinson February 9, 2010 at 11:35 am

With all due respect Buzz, this was a question asked by an individual. So, is a political figure who is a “representative” of the congressional district supposed to simply ignore certain segments of his base? Unless someone is living under a rock, this kind of fervor is all over the place. That certainly doesn’t make it correct.

This certainly is not an issue that would “define” Deal in the public eye. At least I don’t think it would. It’s not something you see plastered all over his campaign materials. That would then, at least in my opinion, create cause for concern.

Congressman Deal isn’t my favored candidate in this race, but I think it’s stupid that some are attempting to define who he is by 3rd party groups who would love to define who he is in the public’s eye.

Jason Pye February 9, 2010 at 11:39 am

Actually, yes, it is an issue that defines him. It brings his capacity to reason into question.

He could have just not answered the question.

Game Fan February 13, 2010 at 5:07 pm

Jason
Your commentary fails the logic test nine times outta ten. And since when did Libertarians start attributing faulty logic to people and grouping and labeling and insulting people according to “group”? And taking a strong stance with the status quo with no solid evidence to your advantage?

Buzz Brockway February 9, 2010 at 11:40 am

But if the segment of his base are nuts, yes he should ignore them. This is akin to Cynthia McKinney calling for an investigation of Bush’s involvement in 9/11. I’m sure there are some nuts in the 9th who want Bush tried for war crimes, and thankfully Deal has ignored them.

Deal’s better than this and he should drop the birther crap post haste.

polisavvy February 9, 2010 at 11:50 am

While I don’t think the birther issue defines him, I do think that it does provide fodder for the other candidates to use against him and the press to continue to pursue until he drops the whole thing. I also think that him making the “15 Most Corrupt Members of Congress” isn’t a plus. This also provides fodder as well. Also, some of the underhanded tactics that some of his supporters or staffers are trying to pull on one candidate in particular is going to come back and haunt him. He should remember that “people who live in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones.” People seem to forget that even though you may have an anonymous screen name, there is a little thing known as an ISP address that can give you away. He’s being defined in ways other than the birther. Time will reveal all, too.

Maurice Atkinson February 9, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Me thinks you all are too close to the forest to see the trees. While you accuse the congressman of being a birther, it appears as if YOU are the ones who are actually bantering the flames on the issue.

I’m not being critical, just my observation as someone who isn’t overzealous on this race (at this point). Some have thrown this around for awhile. Heck, you’re the only place I’ve actually seen it. I’ve not seen this garbage in the AJC or other venues, it’s here. Same thing with the 15 most corrupt stuff. You’re not going to beat Deal with your candidate looking like a bunch of petty bb shooting politicos.

As far as the birther stuff, there’s a bunch of folks asking those questions that aren’t idiots (maybe in your mind they’re idiots). If there is a huge number of your core base asking that, it would be insane to ignore them, especially this year.

Loren February 9, 2010 at 3:58 pm

If they’re not idiots, you simply refer them to the document that was posted online over a year and a half ago. The one issued by the state of Hawaii that clearly states “Location of Birth: Honolulu.” Or perhaps to the official Hawaiian press release where the vital records director says that his original vital records show him as being born in Hawaii.

If they refuse to accept that as sufficient proof that the location of his birth was Honolulu, then yes, they’re idiots.

ByteMe February 9, 2010 at 4:01 pm

griftdrift February 9, 2010 at 4:07 pm

How do we classify Orly Taitz?

(by the way, her latest revelation is Obama has over 100 different social security numbers)

polisavvy February 9, 2010 at 4:14 pm

Maurice, I did not say he was a birther. I said the birther mess was providing fodder. There is a difference. As far as the corrupt business goes, well there again, it will provide fodder. I don’t believe that all of the candidates are going to be shooting bb’s the entire campaign. There will probably be bombs.

Also, just for the record, I believe I have said on numerous occasions that it would be best if he just let the whole birther thing go. Further, I don’t believe I have referenced those people who do question the President’s birthplace as idiots. I know what the meaning of the word idiot is. It’s not one used in my day to day vocabulary.

And finally, just because someone feels differently than I feel, I don’t go lobbing insults in their direction. To each his own. As an aside, I would appreciate it if you would not reference me as being the only place where you seem to find things about Deal. I most certainly am not the news source for an entire geographic location. I thought the purpose of PP was to voice opinions and discuss them intelligently and without anger and malice. So much for that concept, huh?

John Konop February 9, 2010 at 4:15 pm

THE PLAN:

I heard a rumor that Nathan Deal will organize an army of brave Georgian fighting men and women to take over Hawaii and declare it part of Georgia. That way we can change the laws in Hawaii and sell photos of Obama’s birth certificate to balance the budget in the great state of Georgia.

Hi Polisavvy,

To be fair to Congressman Deal, Crews Most Corrupt definitely tilts left. Look at the “where are they now” link of formerly listed Congressmen and see the disparity (39 Republicans, 8 Democrats): http://www.crewsmostcorrupt.org/files/BD%20Alumni%20List_1.pdf

That doesn’t mean Deal is innocent, and he appears oblivious to the fact that he has a perception problem with voters in this area. If he can clear this up, then he needs to do so.

polisavvy February 10, 2010 at 10:23 am

Agreed and in this particular point in time in politics, perception can be everything. Ethics can win or lose an election. I totally agree with you that if he can clear this mess up, he should; if he can’t, then it will continue to be the albatross around his neck.

BillinSuwanee February 10, 2010 at 3:38 pm

John Konop February 9, 2010 at 9:45 am

Dear Nathan Deal if you become Governor could you please tell us after solving the “birther conspiracy” which below theory will you take on next?

1. The World is controlled by shape shifting Reptiles – proposed by David Icke. This one takes the cake.
2. The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion (popular these days in the Muslim world as well as amongst Nazis).
3. The Illuminati (whoever they are) running the show but nobody having a clue (except of course the conspiracy theorists for one reason or another).
4. The US government flying remote controlled planes into the WTC on 911.
5. Shimon Peres being responsible for the Rabin killing – Barry Chamish
6. Monica Lewinsky – Israeli Agent – Rense.com
7. Holocaust Denial
8. Gloria Steinem – CIA Agent – proposed by Henry Makow
9. US as a Police State – Alex Jones. If it were a police state he wouldn’t be allowed to publish such crap in the first place.
10. Satanic Cults amongst the World’s Elites
11. The Light bulb that runs forever that General Electric will never allow to be produced
12. AIDS as a CIA virus.
13. The Queen of England and the Drug Trade – Lyndon La Rouche.
14. The US government creating a drug problem in the American ghettos.
15. Roswell coverup
16. The Power of the Skull and Bones Society

ACConservative February 9, 2010 at 11:13 am

Am I the only one who thinks this is a brilliant strategy? Deal is a shrewd politician parading as a moron. Why would he do such a thing?

Step 1: Act crazy and pander to as many wingnuts as possible, thus locking up the GOP primary on the backs of people wearing aluminum hats.

Step 2: Remind people that as the Republican nominee he’s more than likely to win the governorship.

Step 3: Allow the fear of his impending victory to cause all moderates and democrats to flee the state before election day.

Step 4: Win the election and assume leadership of the people stupid enough to stay. Appoint Paul Broun as your right-hand man and begin snooping out the Iluminati and shutting down Masonic lodges.

IndyInjun February 9, 2010 at 2:05 pm

While he is at it, Deal needs to launch an inquiry into the abduction of John Linder, who has obviously been replaced by an alien “pod person.”

The John Linder who wrote The FairTax Book simply cannot be the same person who is author of HR 25, the FairTax Bill.

If Linder can be replaced by an alien clone, Deal might be next.

galiberal February 9, 2010 at 11:06 pm

Why will Deal not prove he is eligible? All we are asking for is Proof? Why is PeachPundit ignoring the story? Must be part of that crazy liberal main-stream media :-p

But honestly, is it not a little strange that he has not sent the documentation yet. I mean, if he requests it from Obama and he doesn’t send it himself, is that not a bit hypocritical.

I am sure Deal is eligible, but come on, he had to know this type of thing was bound to happen.

Nathan Dudd is definitely NOT the intellectual epicenter of the Republican Party. He may run for that post in his current party The Repubic Party of Georgia.

IndyInjun February 10, 2010 at 4:59 pm

He may run for that post in his current party The Repubic Party of Georgia.

That hit my funny bone.

It puts Deal closer to his real ideological roots than calling himself a Republican.

Game Fan February 13, 2010 at 5:28 pm

As a certified member of the grassroots, I have no idea if this is good political strategy or not. And the “birth” issue ain’t even in my “top ten” issues. (And I’m still definitely a birther). I see no reason not to be at this point. Not sure if it’s in Nathan Deal’s top ten either. It’s difficult to discern with all the outrage over the topic and how it’s magnified to such an extreme by the anti-birthers. What’s the reason to be a die-hard anti-birther? What’s to gain or lose? I don’t get it. What’s wrong with holding politicians to some basic standards? What’s so bad about asking questions that never get answered? Why have multiple versions of a C.O.L.B. and why isn’t someone arrested? The “average Joe” gets fined or arrested for forging documents.

I’m not an anti-birther, I just want to keep the “conspiracy” alive for as long as possible. It’s entertaining as all get out!

polisavvy February 13, 2010 at 6:43 pm

It does have a certain entertainment value to it, doesn’t it? Plus, it really does irritate his fans/supporters, although Deal is the one that started the whole thing (at his constituents’ requests). Deal is the one who ran from news cameras by ducking in bushes. This could have all been over a long time ago if he had handled it differently and not shied away from the press. This is a problem HE created, not us. I wish his fans/supporters would realize this.
