Bill Hembree announces run for Speaker.

Rep. Bill Hembree has sent a letter to the House GOP Caucus announcing he is running for Speaker.

December 9, 2009

Dear Friends,

Today, as Georgians and as members of the Republican Caucus of the Georgia House of Representatives, we find ourselves at a crucial point and in need of strong, moral and ethical leadership. Our constituents are looking to us to quickly elect a new Speaker who can bring about the real change expected of us. The 2010 Legislative Session of the Georgia General Assembly will present many challenges and it is imperative that our current troubles be behind us so that we can focus our full attention on working for the people of Georgia.

I believe that I can provide the leadership that we now need and that is why, after prayerful consideration and with the full support of my wife Beth, our children and our family, I humbly offer my name for consideration as the next Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives and I ask for your support.

For 15 years, I have served the citizens of my district with honor and integrity. I have worked tirelessly for the conservative ideals that form the core of my belief system and I have not waivered from them. Lower taxes, less government intervention in our daily lives, traditional family values, fiscal discipline and personal responsibility – these are the foundation of what we believe and these are the principles that I have fought to protect for the people of Georgia. In both my professional career and political service, I have developed the leadership skills and acquired the experience necessary to be your Speaker. As your Speaker, I will fulfill the responsibilities of the office as a servant leader focused on the future of our state and working to move Georgia forward.

Beth and I humbly ask for your support and for your consideration as your next Speaker. I stand ready to lead the Georgia House of Representatives and to serve the people of our great state as Speaker of the House.

I am happy to talk with each of you personally should you have any questions about my decision or my qualifications to be your Speaker. Please do not hesitate to call me at (678) 761-5757. I look forward to hearing from you and speaking with you personally about this important decision.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Representative Bill Hembree
Georgia House District 67

Wow! For a minute there, I thought that what I had heard through the grapevine wasn’t true. I posted earlier that I thought he may run. I’m glad he is running and what he stands for.

BILL HEMBREE—what a refreshing change from where we have been.

A lot of good people disagreed on SB 31. I talked to a very conservative legislator about that bill, and was convinced that he had used good reasoning in voting for it.

I am not willing to throw a good candidate under the bus for one bill. I will never agree 100% with anyone but myself, and am willing to extend a little grace when everything else looks good.

I don’t know anything about Hembree, but I think he might be worth looking at.

I don’t know much about Hembree either, but I like what he’s said so far. I think the more options the better. At the end of the day we need a fresh face. No thanks to the slate I saw earlier.
