Send me the buzzer. I will use it if it's a Ninth District event. If it's a county event, that's up to the county.

LOL!

Mr. Oxendine is a shallow, rudderless, unqualified career hack who has now morphed into a gross & distasteful caricature of himself.

After plagiarizing every line his opponents have invented, and glomming onto positions even his own team of paid sycophants couldn't grasp if they spent the next 30 years in remedial classes on Constitutional Law - this rodeo clown is about to flame out all on his own.

Rumor has it that a Sheriff's assembly in south Georgia simply told this bozo to sit down & be quiet because he had nothing to say and nothing they wanted to hear.

Then, a couple of weeks ago an attendee at a public candidate forum reportedly asked the fake a direct question about the so-called "FairTax" and Johnny Boy didn't have a clue.

Macho is right - NOBODY is following this hack. He's got nothing to offer, but has spent a pile proving it.

The establishment wants Handel because she'll broker the surrender of Georgia's liberty to the federal leviathan

The people want McBerry because he won't.

Oxyclean is just a sick and sad diversion in tight pants.

It's all a matter of perception. I sure from Ox's perspective, the more people that envision him naked, the better his chances of winning.

Don't know if any of you have seen the movie Old School, but Ox's perception of his lead reminds a little of the scene when Will Ferrel is naked and "leading" the streak across campus. He finally turns around and nobody is following him. Let's wait and see when the actual campaign season starts up with campaign advertising and media scrutiny.

Even more fun in a GOP debate is an elephant trumpeting...played continuously until the candidate stops. I saw it done once during a "meet the candidates" event where everyone was allowed to give a stump speech, with strict time limits. Once the first person was embarrassed by the elephant, most of the rest of them wrapped it up as soon as they got the warning, to avoid the elephant.

Unfortunately for many on PP, he will win both the Primary and General.
I love it, it will be so sweet, and he is not my candidate, but all the others are worse.

Lol. There is a video somewhere of the buzzer in action. Priceless. I need to see if I can find it.

I wrote a simple Java program on a laptop that displayed a countdown and played a loud buzzer sound when it hit zero. I think a good ol' air horn would work wonders, though.

For candidates like McBerry or Scott or even Chapman and Johnson the debates are the perfect chance to move up the poll. All the candidates so far have done what they needed to do to be guarenteed a spot in the debates. Ox is bullying organizations by threatening not to be there. If they have any backbone they will just tell him OK and move on with the debates. It's his choice not to attend not theirs. More then anything I think it is an infringment of 1st amendment rights.

I can speak from experience that the buzzer works. We used it in 2008 for the 12th District Congressional GOP primary debate. They get shell shocked the first time they get buzzed. They start answering rapidly when the next question is posed and quit talking at the warning signal.

1. Elimintate the 2-minute answer. These guys are adept at wasting time, so stick to a 45-second answer. Make sure the people in the audience don't get more than 30 seconds to ask their question. Opening statements should be 2 minutes tops.

2. Have a really really loud buzzer and keep it going until the offender looks like they have been cowed into submission when they go over their 45 seconds. That's entertainment for YouTube right there. Dignity? What's that?

3. I agree that you should only invite those who have filed their paperwork. Low polling numbers is often at this stage just a lack of name recognition, so it's important to include those people with low polling numbers to make sure they get some name recognition.

4. Ratchet up the knob as we get closer to the primaries, so that low polling pols get dropped from the debates if they haven't met certain numbers. In other words, right now, it should be open to anyone who filed, but in a month, increase it to 3% polling, then 6% polling and so on, topping out at 15%. That gets everyone to put some skin in the game if they want to stay in the game.

Of course, I'm not in charge. :)

I would not use the FEC filing, though, for the reason that you stated. It takes nothing but a few stamps and some paper to file with the FEC. Eventually some nut job would figure out that he/she can file with the FEC and get invited to a debate. No qualifying fees or anything.

I think the only way to do it, while still imperfect, is have a pre-screening process by the host of the debate. Call and talk with the candidate one on one. Do some research.

Poll numbers, financial numbers, etc. are not a good litmus test. Too many variables.

I am a little torn on this one.

I agree, there might need to be a cutoff. For instance, in my race, there have been 10 or 11 candidates announce. Only 7 have filed with the FEC, and 9 are campaigning. Should all 11 be invited to a debate? Just the 9 campaigning, or the 7 who have filed?

Personally, I think only those that have filed the paperwork with the FEC (in my race) should do so. It does not cost money to do so, maybe $20 in postage, paper, time, etc. To me, it is a discredit to the voters that come to the events. Recently there was an event in Gilmer County where 9 candidates were present, only 4 or 5, at that time, had filed with the FEC. In the two hour event, the citizens got to ask 3 or 4 questions total. Once each politician gives their allotted 2 minute answer, plus the three that always go over their time by at least double, it took almost 30 minutes to answer one question. Consider the 4 minute opening speeches, 3 or 4 minute closing remarks, the citizens really learn very little about a candidate's views after over 2 hours of hot air.

Now, I disagree with Ox's barameter, (I expect a phone call any minute now telling me to stop bashing Mr. Oxendine). If a candidate has followed basic campaign law, filed the proper paperwork, then I don't think low polling numbers should be a reason to omit him from the debate.

Any thoughts about what rules or customs SHOULD be used to determine which "candidates," pre-qualifying date, should be invited to such debates?

Once each politician gives their allotted 2 minute answer, plus the three that always go over their time by at least double, it took almost 30 minutes to answer one question. Consider the 4 minute opening speeches, 3 or 4 minute closing remarks, the citizens really learn very little about a candidate’s views after over 2 hours of hot air.

Now, I disagree with Ox’s barameter, (I expect a phone call any minute now telling me to stop bashing Mr. Oxendine). If a candidate has followed basic campaign law, filed the proper paperwork, then I don’t think low polling numbers should be a reason to omit him from the debate.

Any thoughts about what rules or customs SHOULD be used to determine which “candidates,” pre-qualifying date, should be invited to such debates?
