Confirmed: Election To Be Held For Speaker; Larry O’Neal Expected To Run

As posted earlier, there will be an election for speaker. I re-emphasize the word election, rather than a selection or a coronation. I am told that Larry O’Neal will be a candidate, but there are expected to be others. Potential other candidates include Jan Jones, John Lunsford, and David Ralston though I believe those names are all speculative at this point.

I am currently unsure the status of both the Speaker Pro Tem’s postion and the Majority Leader’s position. While they currently are occupied, they may not have the same people in those seats after the next caucus meeting. The Pro Tem position currently held by Burkhalter is expected to be vacant. Keen’s Majority Leader status is not up for election and a resignation is not expected at this time.

They had better get it right. According to Rasmussen, the electorate is getting antsy:

“In a three-way Generic Ballot test, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Democrats attracting 36% of the vote. The Tea Party candidate picks up 23%, and Republicans finish third at 18%. Another 22% are undecided. ”

So far the state GOP has been spared the damage that has come to the national party but if they let this linger and don’t clean things up quickly, we could be witnessing the descent into Whigdom.

But I think they have a chance, they just need to take it. So far it doesn’t appear that the general public is paying too much attention to what has been going on. If they clean up quickly, the state party might be able to get out of this with very little damage. If it drags on into the new year though, all bets are off.

    Larry is too old.
    No one likes Jan Jones.
Lunsford and Ralston are the two formidable ones here.

I still like the Edward Lindsey idea….

    No one likes Jan Jones?

She got elected Whip without an opponent- shes done a great job- probably the smartest/most rational person in the House

What the Jan Jones, another Miltonite to further Burkhalter’s ill conceived great obsession to get liberated from Massa Fulton? Is this the best we can muster from the ranks.. Good Grief!

No one likes the Whip. That’s the point of the job; you’re the most hated person in the caucus… the job was perfect for Jan Jones and Barry Flemming…

Aubie…when I went to Sunday School last weekend, a couple of folks were joking about the legislators and Jay Bookman’s article about Sodom and Gomorrah. These were average Joes that normally talk about football. So I think the populace may be more aware than we fanatic bloggers suspect about the high-jinks under the Gold Dome. I admit some of my posts are flip, but recent activities among the Georgia House members appear to be from BIZZARO WORLD. No one could make this stuff up. I am beyond being shocked.

at least Jan Jones has her own vagina….something to be said for an all-female leadership of the Georgia House of representatives.

The personable John Lunsford is president of a successful janitorial supply company in Henry County. The personable David Ralston is a successful attorney in Blue Ridge.

What’s needed is a total reset… It’s time to get rid of the entire Richardson – Burkhalter – Keen – Jones – Earhart regime and bring in fresh leadership to the House of Representatives.

Who those leaders are, I’m not sure.

David Ralston has tax issues that are not easily explained. Larry O’Neal pushed secret legislation for the Governor that looks suspicious.

Whomever the next members of leadership are they need to:

    -Repeal the “Hawks”
-Allow the Minority to appoint its own committee members
    -Not have any tax problems
-Not have any “transgressions” with lobbyists
-Not be cheating or have cheated on their spouse
-Be ready to work their tale off trying to keep the House

Also, a note to those that bring up the Democrats and their ethics. Yes, there are some with issues, but by and large, nothing compared to what the House Leaders have been keeping secret. Plus, you cannot compare what happened almost 10 years ago with what is happening RIGHT NOW.

Change leaders, set an agenda, and get moving.

First Jan came into leadership last year- has had no lobbyist transgressions- is respected throughout the caucus- never had an affair- no tax issues- and is popular on the stump
