More calls for Richardson’s resignation

The Pete Randall Tip Line also brings word of State Rep. Judy Manning (R-Marietta) and State Rep. Rob Teilhet (D-Smyrna) calling for Richardson to resign.

Teilhet said if Richardson is removed as speaker but the General Assembly does not address “the underlying culture of corruption that has allowed this to happen, we’ll do the people of Georgia a grave disservice. It’s time for meaningful and comprehensive ethics reform that will restore the public’s trust in government, which is badly broken.”

  1. macho says:

It will be interesting to see what kind of ethics reform Teilhet wants to pass that will stop politicians from unzipping their pants.

  2. mongo says:

If the allegations made by Susan Richardson are true, the Speaker should not only resign, he is also guilty of the misdemeanor criminal offense of Stalking under Georgia law.

See O.C.G.A § 16-5-90(a)(1). Stalking: “A person commits the offense of stalking when he or she follows, places under surveillance, or contacts another person at or about a place or places without the consent of the other person for the purpose of harassing and intimidating the other person.”

  3. Hochimama says:

Heres the deal. Richardson needs to resign — now. If he doesn’t, the House Republicans need to vote him out — now. If they don’t, we find quality people to run and throw them out — now.

This is ridiculous it has gone on this long. Would someone show me a little backbone here, for crying out loud???

  4. Silent Outrage says:

Oxendine’s statement is laughable if for no other reason than his own multiple ethical shortcomings (illegal campaign contributions, shaking down insurance loobyists, his wife’s job, etc…).

We are not talking about some random House Member – we’re talking about the Speaker of the House – a statewide leadership position.
The only clear and ethical thing to do is for the real leaders of Georgia to speak up and speak out and call for this man’s resignation.
