The Coyote Menace

Without road runners to divert their attention livestock is attracting the attention of the wily coyotes.

But it is not just South Georgia with the problem. My in-laws in Carrollton live across from a field where you can hear the coyotes at night.

It’s called a .22 with a scope.

I prefer my .270. Leaves little doubt.

I also like the .270. Better range, too.

Robot Dogs are the answer

I think they’re probably more numerous than deer in Dade County. Friends tell of sitting for hours in tree stands and seeing few deer but lots of coyotes. If it looks like it’s going to be a slow hunting day they go for the coyote. At night when a siren sounds or the train goes through the valley it’s astonishing how many you can hear not very far from the house. One indicator of too many coyotes is how few rabbits you see around the fields. None here.

Coyotes prey on family pets and life stock. You should be able to protect both. Have an open, year round season on them and thin them out with whatever caliber suits you.

I’m actually not sure what the regs say. Have to look that up. But they definitely should be categorized as a nuisance much like hogs.

My uncle jimbo and his friend Ned used to say that you can shoot anything if it is “coming right at you”.
