Isakson: Health Care DOA

by Erick on November 10, 2009

Isakson says it won’t pass.

U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-east Cobb) thinks the health care bill that passed the House on Saturday has almost no chance in the Senate because Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) has vowed to join a majority Republican filibuster against the measure.

Looking at the Senate calendar, I don’t see how it can pass this year and I think next year will make it even more difficult to pass. Likewise, Barbara Boxer and Susan Collins want the Stupak language out of the legislation, but Bill Nelson of Florida wants it in. That’ll just prolong the fight as we wait for a Grand Bipartisan CompromiseTM

“but Bill Nelson of Florida wants it in”

From what I understand, Ben Nelson, the Senator from Nebraska, is the one wanting to keep the Stupak language. It’d make sense considering he’s staunchly pro-life while Senator Nelson from Florida is staunchly pro-choice……

You’re correct. It’s Ben Nelson.

I like this filibuster language. Shut down the Senate.

C-Span has a deal with Cartoon Network to show their shows if that happens. So that no one feels like they’re missing anything.

Will Isakson put principle above bipartisanship for once? What a rare occasion.
