All eyes turn to Georgia’s 9th Congressional District

by Pete Randall on November 4, 2009

He’s Tom Dooley, and he’s running to mine areas of the border randomly with non-lethal dye pack mines. Okay, and he’s in favor of a lot of common sense solutions I agree with. But the dye pack thing made me laugh. Good luck, Tom.

[UPDATE] Evidently Icarus covered Dooley a few weeks ago, as well.

I never get over how many American’s believe in their own destruction.

Buzz Brockway November 4, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Hey, the dye packs are non-lethal.

For those who want to find out more about those running for congress in the Ninth almost all at one time in a live setting, I have a treat for you.

On November 10, 2009 8 of the 9 announced candidates will be attending a fund raiser for the Walker County GOP as the featured speakers. It is called the 2009 Victory Dinner. Come celebrate the wins in NJ and VA.

It will be from 7 to 9 PM at the Walker County Civic Center, and press will be present, so those attending should behave.

Dinner will be served and bring at least $15. Oh yes, I forgot, there will be a straw poll for all statewide offices, congress, and 2012 Presidential candidates.

If interested in attending, email me at GOPGeorgia@comcast.net.

There will be a reception, with free drinks, before the dinner hosted by Jeremy Jones for Congress. (Free drinks if you buy a ticket to the reception!)

are the free “drinks” worth having?

Jeremy Jones November 4, 2009 at 6:17 pm

If you like wine they are.

umustbekidding November 4, 2009 at 6:20 pm

that is what I was wondering. Just making sure it wasn’t bottled water and cokes. ;-)

I’d like to go but I just found it on mapquest and it’s almost 3 hours away for me. ;-(

Welcome to my traveling world.

Holly November 4, 2009 at 2:49 pm

Plus, you get to visit Walker County, which is gorgeous. :-)

Wish I could make it.

ByteMe November 4, 2009 at 2:53 pm

And this Tom guy is worried that Alabama or Tennessee will invade Georgia so he wants to mine the border with non-lethal mines?

Reality is more fun than fiction.

GOPGeorgia November 4, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Tom’s talking about the Mexican border. I would guess that we would want straws up on the TN border, but that’s just a guess.

Nathan November 4, 2009 at 2:58 pm

Hope to see folks from the Peach Pundit crowd at our Victory Dinner next week. Walker County is beautiful this time of year!

umustbekidding November 4, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Where is Walker County?

GOPGeorgia November 4, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Far North West…touches Alabama and Tennessee.

Icarus November 4, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Walker County protects the rest of us from touching Dade county, and us from touching them. It deserves a Nobel much more than Obama.

Ramblinwreck November 5, 2009 at 10:49 pm

We’ve tried to leave the state of Georgia 3 times and they won’t let us. We didn’t re-enter the union “officially” till after VE day in 1945. We’re an independent, stubborn bunch.

Icarus November 4, 2009 at 3:26 pm

As for Tom Dooley, I wrote about him here a few days back. Same piece I suggested it might be a good idea for Georgians to stay out of New York Politics.

Tom’s a good man, and sincere. He admits some of his ideas are “out there”. The ability for anyone to promote their ideas, no matter how outside the box, is one of the things that makes this country great.

Pete Randall November 4, 2009 at 4:27 pm

Sorry, dude. Didn’t realize you had already covered Dooley. Just linked to your original post. Thanks.

People taking an interest in other areas is one of the “unintended consequences” of the internet. While I like to keep tabs in certain areas, overall I’d be opposed to any ham-fisted attempts by national organizations or politicians to impose their will in other areas.

Game Fan November 5, 2009 at 3:13 pm

Of course I think some real grassroots orgs like the C4L are an “equalizer” to the vested interests. :)

bucky November 4, 2009 at 5:18 pm

Is that his real name? Did his folks name him after the song?

ByteMe November 4, 2009 at 8:59 pm

We’re hoping they didn’t just pick “Dooley” out of a hat when he was born.

Ramblinwreck November 5, 2009 at 10:50 pm

Just laughed so hard I think I woke up my daughter.

Truthteller November 4, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Well, the song “Tom Dooley” was, in fact, sung by the KINGSTON Trio.

Someone tell Jack K quick!

Perhaps it’s best not to post the words to the song…

So if you see a Mexican looking guy in a parking lot covered in fluorescent paint he’s probably illegal? I’ll jot that one down.

GOPGeorgia November 4, 2009 at 8:04 pm

….or he just jobbed a bank, but I guess that would make him illegal as well.

Georgia 9th picked as one of the battlegrounds pitting Conservatives versus Moderates to see who controls the Republican party:

Goldwater Conservative November 7, 2009 at 11:13 pm

Who cares. The results will be different in different parts of the country.

There are more bigots in the GA-9 than in the NY-23. Furthermore, the NY-23 was only R+1…not a highly safe conservative or republican seat.

You should stop reading only that which agrees with your world view or confirms your own prophecies…that actually goes for all right wingers.

Goldwater Conservative November 7, 2009 at 11:15 pm

Oh yeah, let the conservatives run the GOP. The democratic party will hold a firm majority for several generations given that situation.

You need a majority to govern. So long as the Dems stay in the middle, and yes they are in the middle right now, they will hold Congress and the WH for as long as you wish.

GOPGeorgia November 8, 2009 at 4:56 pm

GC,

I don’t care what color or ethnicity you are, I take umbrage to the bigot comment. The people who see terms of in just back and white are most likely to be bigots themselves. Someone needs to teach you some manners.

TomDooley November 7, 2009 at 6:40 pm

As for my wild ideas, Have you heard any other candidate that has put out any specific idea on any issue. Yes my ideas are wild, but at one time people thought the world was flat. And when else in history has our nation been under attack from within and without of the borders.
It is time to think outside of the box instead of the same old worn out box.

Goldwater Conservative November 7, 2009 at 11:11 pm

Yeah, sorry Mr. Dooley…but being specific in an electoral environment only alienates people. Those seeking reelection must be vauge enough to capture the votes required to win office.

How much money have you raised so far?

TomDooley November 8, 2009 at 10:44 pm

That is why our country is in the shape it is in. Because it is all about the office not the country! What can they do for me! If We truly want our country back then people need to look for those who have the ideas and motivation and will not back down. Politics as usual will only bring you what we have, a Congress who shreds the constitution. It is time for people to say what they mean and mean what they say.
